The official currency of Russia is the ‘ruble’ or ‘rouble’. The rouble is divided into 100 kopeks. It has been the currency of Russia for about 500 years. It is believed that the currency’s name is taken from the Russian word ‘rubit’ meaning ‘to chop’. Historically a ruble was a piece of weight chopped off piece of silver.
