On the edge of the village Ponazyrevo the local priest, Father Evgeniy organized “Rehab Center” to give the roof above the heads of people who have no way to go. How they live, about what they think and dream, what they feel, what helps them to survive? The movie “On the edge” tries to give answers to all these questions.
This is not a movie about the prominent Russian actor Yankovsky who played in Tarkovsky’s movies or opposite Malcolm McDowell. It’s not his biography. Neither is it an overview of the parts he played. Nor does it offer hot facts from his private life… Although the material that the filmmakers had at their disposal permitted to shoot all of the above and more. Filip, the son of Oleg Ivanovich, consented to appear in the film only because he had faith in the concept. Our film is about the presence of someone who is gone, in the life of the living. What differentiates an actor from a usual person is possibility of resurrection. Like any great actor Yankovasky had his mystery: he never revealed himself completely either in life, or on screen.
Set in a remote Russian village located about hundered and sixty kilometres from Moscow, this observational documenta-ry is focused on a group of loggers – illegal migrants from Tajikistan who came to Russia in the hope of finding work. Hired by Russian businesses, they live thousands of kilometres away from their families to whom they send their earnings. The uncompromising endless shots capture the simplicity of the lives of these seasonal workers, and the overall undisciplined style of the filming corresponds well to the unfriendly environment in which they must survive from day to day.
Eight of the strongest athletes from different parts of the world (China, Germany, Australia, USA, Russia and Brazil) are fighting for the chance to come to Sochi and win a medal of the highest standard, but before this each of them must defeat the most serious opponent – their own disability. The documen-tary stories of the athletes are mixed with animated clips done in various styles. The official documen-tary of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games «Spirit in Motion» by request of the International Paralympic Committee (Germany, Bonn).
