The New Generation of Oil Mist Lubrication Systems

RVmist Oil Mist Generator

Thanks to the latest advances in control and opera-tion technology, the new generation of RVmist oil mist generators are designed to lubricate rotating equipment more easily, efficiently and safely.

The centralized, autonomous and automatic per-formance is managed by a LCD touch screen and PLC. The oil mist generator provides a high degree of autonomy due to automatic filling and high capacity lubricant reservoirs, reducing handling in the plant, reducing maintenance and operation costs and thus possible accidents.

Continuous operation is ensured thanks to two complete and identically equipped oil mist genera-ting units. The user can automatically select through the touch screen the operating unit and thus per-form maintenance without interrupting the oil mist supply.

The RVmist records all the parameters involved in the oil mist generation process, displaying a histori-cal data and performance values on time, showing the evolution of the parameters and behaviour of the equipment. That allows fast identification of any operation deviation. Data logging and visualization is ideal for conducting efficiently preventative and pre-dictive maintenance.

Equipment are designed and approved under in-ternational standards for installation in potentially explosive areas normally required in the Oil & Gas sector. Likewise, protection against external agents in the form of dust or rain for an adequate outdoor installation in the most demanding industrial envi-ronments is provided.

Generación de Niebla

The oil mist generator performs the following functions:

• Oil mist generation, through Vortex technology.

• Air/Oil storage, supply, filtration and heating.

• Process parameter control and monitoring.

• Alert in the event of failure and communica-tion with DCS (Distributed Control System).

Oil Mist GenerationThe RVmist is equipped with Vortex oil mist genera-tors that provide an extensive lubrication capacity up to 40 scfm.

The oil mist generating capacity is adjustable depen-ding on lubricant demand by regulation or exclusive replacement of the Vortex head, without replacing additional components.

Storage, Supply and Filtration The RVmist includes two complete and identically equipped oil mist generating units (main and auxi-liary unit) which incorporate lube oil tanks with a useful capacity of 30 litres.

These lube oil tanks are automatically refilled from a reposition tank through a pneumatic pump. The reposition tank is integrated with the oil mist gene-rating tanks and has a useful capacity of 400 litres, providing a high level of autonomy.

The oil transferred from the reposition tank to the oil mist generation tanks is filtered ensuring optimum lubricant properties and quality.

The compressed air supply provided at plant is fil-tered at the inlet of the system, separating particles and moisture.

The air filter duplex configuration allows easy car-tridge replacement without interrupting the oil mist continuous supply.

Air / Oil HeatingOil mist properties are strongly influenced by the oil viscosity, so that the variation of oil temperature by means of heaters allows a precise control of oil visco-sity, and as a consequence oil mist characteristics.

One of the main parameters that affects oil mist ge-neration is oil viscosity. The use of oil heaters allows a precise control of its viscosity, facilitating the suction of oil to the Vortex. Heating the air increases oil ato-mization efficiency.

The RVmist incorporates one oil heater per oil mist generation tank and one air circulation heater. This configuration allows oil mist generation in optimum conditions, continuously, maintaining oil mist quality despite facing adverse weather conditions.

Control

Process parameters control and monitoringThe oil mist generation process is conducted auto-matically by means of a Programmable Logic Con-troller (PLC).

Process parameters are controlled by the instru-mentation that transmits the information to the PLC. The use of transmitters for controlling process pa-rameters allows a real time variable measurement, automatically and autonomously operation, as well as immediate alert in case of failure.

The compact design, installing all the elements insi-de an enclosure, facilitates transportation, minimi-zes the space required for installation at plant, pre-vents the ingress of external agents and preserves the state of the most sensitive components against possible impacts.

Alarms and DCS communicationThe PLC manages the lubrication system, monito-ring process parameters in real time.

The touch screen includes RS-485, RS-232, RS-422, USB and Ethernet terminals.

MODBUS communication protocol enables commu-nication with a distributed control system (DCS).

The oil mist generator includes the following instru-mentation:

• Air pressure indicators.

• Oil mist pressure indicator.

• Oil mist pressure transmitter.

• Air supply pressure transmitter.

• Oil and air temperature transmitters.

• Oil level transmitters.

The transmitters are intelligent type, which allow reading of values, configure the measuring range and diagnose faults.

The pressure gauges are designed under ASME B40.1, with phenolic case and solid front comply with safety standards.

The user interface (HMI) is a 7“ LCD touch screen that allows the user to control the system easily and intuitively.

The values of the operating variables are displayed in real time through the touch screen, in English unit system (gal, °F, psi, “H2O) or alternative (ltr, °C, Kg/cm2, mmH2O).

In addition to customizing settings, the user can also select the language (English, Spanish or alternative) and restrict access by entering a password.

The PLC sets the maximum and minimum alarm values for each monitored parameter. If these limits are not exceeded, the beacon located at the top of the system enclosure illuminates a green LED, in

case any of the parameters varies, altering without impeding the generation of mist, then illuminates an orange LED. If the oil mist system detects a deviation of the process parameters that prevents the lubrica-tion of the rotary equipment then illuminates a red LED.

In addition to the light beacon, a message on the screen indicates the affected process variable.

All the parameters involved in the oil mist genera-tion process are monitored and displayed on the touch screen:

• Oil mist pressure.

• Oil level in the oil mist reposition and gene-ration tanks.

• Oil temperature in the oil mist generation tanks.

• Air temperature.

• Air supply pressure.

• Control panel pressure.

The touch screen displays the real-time value as well as the trend of each process parameter with regards to time. Because of this function it is pos-sible to determine in case of failure the causes and the moment in which there has been an alteration in the system performance.
