President’s Pen
This is it… while we work in our communities, support our
veterans, and advocate for those without a voice, our main objective has
always been to elect conservative leaders. For the past (nearly) eight years,
our ultimate goal has been to retake the Whitehouse. Our efforts have been
enormously successful ensuring GOP victories statewide and increasing GOP
majorities in both the U.S. Congress and U.S. Senate. Unfortunately, we have
yet to regain 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. In 2012, we were really close…
The polls were going our way but Republicans didn’t turn out to vote.
In the next few days we will find out if we have done enough to change the trajectory of
our nation. If you have already voted, thank you! If not, please do so soon. Do NOT wait.
Either way, please encourage everyone you know to vote. Call your friends and relatives,
send email reminders, post something on social media and get involved with Strike Force.
We truly need all hands on deck. America is at a precipice, and only determined action will
save her from 50 years of unconstitutional Supreme Court rulings, the complete
dismantling of our military, and a near total financial collapse.
Whatever happens on November 8th, we must continue to fight for the freedom we have.
We, the Republican Women of Greater North Texas, are up to the challenge and we invite
you to join us.
Let’s Make America Great Again!
Thank you for the honor of serving you,
Glynis Chester

CAMPAIGN HOURS
Could there be a busier time than this for volunteering and racking up campaign hours? With all the work you are
doing helping to get your candidates elected, our report for the fourth quarter should be through the roof. Please
keep track of time you're spending handing out fliers, sending postcards, working at the polls, talking with groups and
individuals, and everything else you may be doing in connection with this important election and in support of
Republican candidates. You can keep a record of your time spent and submit one report at the end of the quarter, or
you can submit your time on line as you go along. The on-line system will total all of your entries and report one
amount for you.
Remember, too, that if you've missed report hours during the past year, you can still submit them to be included in
this year's total. Please take the time to go back and review volunteer work you've done to make sure you've reported
everything.
We no longer have a form that needs to be filled out. You keep your own detailed record and simply submit a total.
To report your hours, go to our home page (Republican Women of Greater North Texas) and note on the left side the
words "Submit Your Volunteer Hours." Below those words you will enter your name, email address and total number
of hours worked.
We are looking forward to accurate and complete reporting this quarter!

Legislative Update
OBSERVATIONS FROM THE RECENT PROPERTY TAX HEARINGS
Commentary by Senator Van Taylor
In the face of skyrocketing appraisals and a crushing property tax burden levied on working families and
retired Texans on a fixed income, the Texas Senate will lead the fight for meaningful property tax reform with
the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. Last Fall, Lieutenant Governor Patrick appointed a Select
Committee on Property Tax Relief and Reform. As a member of that Committee, I traveled the state listening
to the people and I want to share some observations from the series of hearings in The Valley, San Antonio,
Lubbock, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Plano.
First, let me state the obvious: without a vigilant eye defending the taxpayers, government will naturally
consume everything in its path. In 1900, government was approximately 8% of gross domestic product
(GDP), now it is around 42%. We must stop this inexorable rise. Currently, the property tax system in Texas
embodies the most glaring evidence of this problem. According to data from the Texas Comptroller, between
2005 and 2014 property taxes grew approximately 2.5 times faster than the median household income.
That growth is simply unsustainable. Worse, this growth prices people out of their home.
To add insult to injury, the rapid growth of property tax rolls come not as the result of local officials
campaigning on higher taxes and voters rallying behind their plea. Rather, tax increases stem from an
appraisal system that offers local politicians a vehicle to subvert the people with a backdoor means to
increase taxes and government spending.
Crisscrossing the state, the committee did not hear from a single citizen taxpayer satisfied with the status
quo. Not a single citizen approved of their property tax increases. And not a single citizen felt government
stacked the cards fairly so that people can affect change in their community.
Meanwhile, government officials, taxpayer-funded lobbyists, and high-powered government consultants
repeatedly lectured taxpayers on why local governments need more and more of the people’s money. They
brazenly advocated for a government with unhinged power to grow as the political elite see fit.
The contrast is staggering. On no other issue have I seen such a divide between the will of the people and
government interests. This divide exposes a system where government grows on autopilot without a
mechanism for the people to check its power. Such a system, which seeks to silence the people, belittles the
principles of our Republic and cries out for reform.
The more government takes, the less freedom people have to choose how they want to live their lives.
Property taxes are even more personal. Our homes are more than just an asset for the government to tax.
Our homes are sacred places where we enjoy family dinners, raise our children, gather to celebrate life’s
milestones, build tree houses, set up lemonade stands, etch yearly height measurements into door frames,
hang pictures, and make many other memories.
When I hear the fear in people’s voice, worried they might have to sell their home because the tax burden
has grown too immense, my blood boils. Government exists to secure the rights of the people. The stories
shared by homeowners through these hearings run contrary to this principle.
The Senate will keep listening and offer meaningful solutions that empower the people and provide much
needed tax relief. However, the big-government forces have drawn a line in the sand, vowed to never
compromise and fight us at every turn. Thus, citizens packed auditoriums across the state to express their
grief and frustration. As I have said before, the only way to defeat the determined big-government forces is
for the voice of the people to echo even louder. Join me!

Our Cookbook is fabulous!! Cooking Right in Red Hot Texas
I hope everyone is thinking about making "Cooking Right in Red Hot Texas" a
big part of their holiday gift giving. This is a major fund raiser for our
club. Among other things, the proceeds will be used to fund scholarships in the
spring.
We had a vendor table at the St. Francis Holiday Bazaar on October 22.
We will have booth at:
-- the holiday bazaar at Stonebriar Country Club on Monday, November
14. Donna Schmittler will be managing that sale and she will need some ladies
to help her out during the day. Please let her know if you can devote some time to help.
--Eldorado Country Club, Tuesday, December 6. Gail Entrekin or Marilynn Meeks will be looking for
volunteers.
In addition, we will be selling the books before our November meeting which will be held this month on
November 15th.
The bazaar sales help, but most of our success has come from our membership. Please remember your
friends and family members, especially the young people who have young families. Chances are they
haven't accumulated a large number of cookbooks yet. Anyone who has done a service for you during the
past year (teachers, hairdressers, nail salon staff) can be thanked with the gift of a cookbook. Please help
boost our sales to help with our various projects.

Caring for America
The Samaritan Inn play area is in serious need of baby dolls and trucks! Can you help?
Recently on a tour of the Inn, I discovered the need for these toys. With the turnover of
families, along with new residents coming in, this room tends to be overlooked. Please
make sure dolls/trucks are not small enough to be a choking hazard for small children.
Dolls and trucks will be delivered to The Samaritan Inn after our November meeting.
Please help brighten the eyes of the children living at The Samaritan Inn by donating!
Sandy Simpson, Caring for America Chairman
