The Huntington Performing Arts Festival will present Puc- cini' s "Madame Butterfly " with Marie Traflcante In the title role oa Friday , July at Heckscher Park as part of a three-day festival. Miss Traflcante' s ""' musical' background is extensive - she studied at Juilliard under the laie Ha rdesly Johnson, and , after winning the "Metropolitan Opera , Auditions of the Art , " she studied at the Kathryn Long School of the Metropolitan. She was also awarded a Fulbright grant , and continued her studies in Munich , Germany. During her studies in Germany she sang in many Ger- main Opera Theatres as a guest artist. Returning home she was honored with grants from the IvCartha Baird Rockefeller Aid to MCusic Program , which enable d her to further her work In Italy, milking her debut at the famous Tflatro Nuov o in Milan . Miss T raficante has c ' oncertized con- siderably in Europe and Amer- ica; and in October of this year she will prerent a recital in the L ibrary of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. William M. Thompson of the Opera Theatr e of Long Island ! will sing the lead male role and | also produce and direct "Madame Butterfly " . Mr . The Huntington PerformingArts Festival will present Puc-cini's "Madame Butterfly" withMarie Traflcante In the title roleoa Friday , July at HeckscherPark as part of a three-dayfestival.

Miss Traflcante's ""'musical'background is extensive - shestudied at Juilliard under thelaie Hardesly Johnson, and ,afterwinning the "Metropolitan Opera ,Auditions of the Art,"she studiedat the Kathryn Long School ofthe Metropolitan. She was alsoawarded a Fulbright grant , andcontinued her studies in Munich,Germany. During her studies inGermany she sang in many Ger-main Opera Theatres as a guestartist. Returning home she washonored with grants from theIvCartha Baird Rockefeller Aid toMCusic Program, which enabledher to further her work In Italy,milking her debut at the famousTflatro Nuov o in Milan. MissT raficante has c'oncertized con-siderably in Europe and Amer-ica; and in October of this yearshe will prerent a recital in theL ibrary of the Performing Artsat Lincoln Center.
