Class 1-2

From around the classrooms…. Kindergarten

Kindergarten have had a wide range of experiences in the last fortnight. They have all been busy learning new sounds and sight words and are very excited to recognise them in the books we have read. They loved the visit from Questacon and were amazed at the experiments. We have been foraging in the school garden and picked some tomatoes. We cooked soup and ate it for lunch. There were mixed reactions. Some said it was delicious, we are great cooks, can we have the kind that comes in cans next time? We joined in the discussions about anti bullying, Harmony Day and being Upstanders and along with 1-2 painted a fabulous mural showing us supporting each other. We’ve painted self portraits, worked on position, collected and

This week we have been practising our Assembly item...but we had to fit it in with all the other exciting things going on at RPS! We loved Anti-bullying day, where we got to create a ‘friendship’ mural with our friends in Kindergarten. We had so much fun at the Questacon Science Circus we couldn’t wait to get back to our class and write about it. We have also been looking at 2D shapes...ask us what a vertex is! ...Go on!

Class 3-4 P a g e 3 T e r m 1 , W e e k 8

The past few weeks have seen Year 3-4 involved in a variety of activities at school. The children had a great time competing against students from around the world on Mathletics for World Maths Day. They also performed beautifully at our class Assembly. Thank you to the many family members who packed the Hall. Last week the children dressed in blue to support a national campaign for anti-bullying and putting a stop to violence. They followed this up yesterday with our discussions about being in harmony by being kind and tolerant of others’ differences. We all had a blast at the Shell Questacon Science Circus! The enthusiasm from the audience was electric. The children learnt many exciting science experiments, even some that they could do at home. So much going on and we have managed to also learn many new things in class also! Year 3-4 have continue to learn about Dreamtime stories as well as writing many beautiful recounts and narratives associated with this theme. Our classroom is also

looking FABULOUS thanks to money from the Kandos Charity Shop and the RPS P&C. We have a bright new floor rug and a new 'jelly bean' table. We are also getting some new comfy cushions and book shelves. Thank you so very much to all of the people who have supported the Charity Shop and the P&C so that the children can have these new things to make our classroom more engaging! Mrs Suttor

Book Club order forms should have come home with your child this week. If you wish to purchase from this brochure, could all orders be returned to school by Thursday next week please? This way I can place the order during the Easter break and the books will hopefully be at school before the end of term. If paying in cash, correct money is appreciated. There are instructions included as to how to pay online by credit card, or cheques need to be made out to Scholastic Australia and NOT the school. Mrs D’Ilio

On Tuesday the 13th Mrs D went to KPS to participate in a course on Personalised Learning Plans.

On Thursday 15th, Ms Burcher went to Ilford PS to join Mr Lindsay and Mr Morley and met with Mrs MacDonald (Director, Public Schools Bathurst) to go over our School Plan and Professional Development Plans.

On Monday 19th Mrs Suttor went to KHS to participate in a course on data collection. She will be presenting to the rest of the staff at a future staff meeting.

On Tuesday 20th, Mrs Stokes attended a Diabetes course in Sydney.

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that came to watch our assembly item last Friday. This week we have all started to write our Anzac stories in the lead up to Anzac Day. We have been reading lots of stories about the war and learning about the history of Anzac Day. Yesterday we had two Questacon presenters come and visit our school to carry out some science investigations with the students. It was lots of fun learning about different science concepts and the students thoroughly enjoyed helping out with the experiments. In maths we continue to focus on multiplication and division and are learning lots of strategies to help solve tricky questions. Miss Burns

5/6 Students working on a real life Maths problem. They each had to predict whether the coffee table would fit in Miss Burn’s car. They then measured the height, width and length of the table, and yes it did fit!

Questacon Science Circus

SRC What a fantastic job SRC members are doing! They ran a great disco for K-2 children on Thursday, Friday and Monday lunchtimes. Everyone had fun and there were some groovy moves happening! Our bottle collection is going well. This week we have collected another 190 bottles. Thanks to everyone who has donated their bottles and cans to us. The SRC Easter raffle is going well. Members will be going to sell tickets outside CRT on Tuesday at lunch time and it will be drawn at our Easter Hat Parade. Thanks to everyone who has donated eggs and bought tickets.

Their next venture is selling bags of sticks and bark to use as fire starters now the weather is getting colder. These will sell for $1.00 a bag and sales will start next week. The children will be running netball games at lunchtime during the next few weeks. This group is certainly full of great ideas!

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have Ayla & Salarian from Questacon visit our school for a fun-filled and engaging performance all about Science. They showed the students various amazing science experiments involving chemistry, physics, biology and engineering. The enthusiasm from the students in the audience was fabulous, as were their manners and involvement in the show. Below are some of the 'action shots' from the performances. I'm sure you'll agree that it was a worthwhile learning experience for the students.

Every student also received a Free Entry Ticket to Questacon's performance in Mudgee this Sunday. Parents and older children need to pay $5.00 but children under 6 years are free.

As part of our National Day against Bullying last Friday, after our regular assembly, we watched a video explaining what an Upstander was. The video outlined there were four steps to being an Upstander.

if you see someone who looks unhappy or it looks like they may be being bullied….it’s easy to go and ask them to play!

ask the bully a question or give someone a message … sometimes just interrupting will stop a bully from continuing.

this is for the brave amongst us...’Hey, stop that!” or ‘That’s not a nice thing to say!”. It takes courage to speak out against a bully, but sometimes showing how brave you can be scares a bully!

….this is NOT dobbing! If you know of or have seen someone being bullied, tell a teacher or a grown up.

We can all be UPSTANDERS if we use one of these strategies and stand up for our friends and what is right!

ARPY is an UPSTANDER Anti-bullying Day

P & C Fundraising News Jolly Joker 2018/2019 – A huge thankyou goes out to Bec Mackander, Sheridan Byrne, Alisa Burlington, Kath Brennan, Kerry Reynolds, Nikki O’Brien, Gemma Suttor, Bec Guilfoyle, Jackie Glew, Shannon Morris, Sandra Stroud, Mel Moore and our emergency contacts Libby Varcoe, Kate Reid, Cheryl McCouat and Mandy Rankin. Please know that your assistance in this fundraiser is greatly appreciated and without you all, it would not succeed. A red envelope will be in your child’s bag today with the new roster. Thankyou to Tammy Mclean (preschool) for getting the roster all organised.

Tupperware – World Water Day – Friday 23/3/2018 – Cathi Reid would love everybody to come down to Café on Louee after the assembly on Friday around 10 – 10.30am. Grab a coffee and yummy snack and see what the latest Tupperware has to offer. Maybe even book a party yourself, the rewards can be fabulous. We would love to see you there for this fundraiser.

Garden Day – Saturday 7th, 8th April 2018 – We have been given a wonderful opportunity to set up a food stall in the Coomber gardens. The gardens are stunning and well worth a look with ABC attending. I thought our children would love to play and eat, while we serve some delicious cakes and slices! This could be a really fun group activity for us all and great exposure for our little school. I would love to see everyone just chip in bake a cake, help on the stall. A small meeting will be held on Thursday to plan. Please give Rebecca Guilfoyle a call on: 0477 953 166 if you can help out.

Thankyou, Rebecca Guilfoyle
