Think, O God, of our friends who are ill, whom we now commend to Your compassionate regard. Comfort them upon their sickbed and ease their suffering. We beg for deliverance, and submit that no healing is too hard for the Lord, if it be His will. We therefore pray that You bless our friends with Your loving care, renew their strength, and heal what ails them in Your loving name. Thank you Lord

PRAYER FOR SEMINARIANS

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that you call many worthy souls to your holy priest-hood. Enlighten the Bishop and Vocation Director in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Directors in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in your unerring footsteps, so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. May they be steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man, apostles of your glory, and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Amen

The Eucharist and the Crisis’s of Life This time of Coronavirus has been a time of shaking, shaking the church, shaking the world, questioning “What is really important?” “What is the Eucharist in this time?” “Does the Eucharist even matter?” “Is our faith even that importance?” In the book of Exodus, the people were in danger of starving in the desert, and God sent them Mana from heaven. This food sustained them miraculously for the journey, so also the Eucharist nourishes us spiritually for the journey. As some have experienced in these past weeks, even spiritual communion is capable of nourishing us. Mana from heaven does not prevent us from suffering. That is a result of sin. We all will suffer and die. Jesus does not promise life without conse-quence, but eternal life which we glimpse already in this life. In the Old Testament, the people carried with them the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark was fashioned as a kind of throne that God would sit on. They understood that the Ark was representative of the presence of God. When they traveled, they did so with the Ark following the path he laid out for them. When they went into battle, they brought the Ark. For the most part, they lived and died by the presence of God. God gave them miraculous food, victory in battle, and sustained the people. However, when they ignored God, did evil in his sight, things went poorly for Israel. They lost their identity and learned the feebleness of their strength. In the Old Testament, God was present among the people through the Ark. In the Eucharist, Jesus is not only physically present, but he desires that we consume him in the Eucharistic species. God wants us to be fed by him. He wants to sustain and strengthen us. He wants to lead us on the way. He wants to free us from our sins. We, however, often want to do things our way. We believe, like children, that we know better. God respects our freedom, but we suffer because of our poor choices. More than anything in a theology textbook, I know Jesus to be truly present in the Eucharist because my experience vali-dates the church’s teaching. I have witnessed in the Eucharist things which can only be explained by God. I do not be-lieve because I have witnessed these things. I believe because of the word of Jesus and the witness of the Church. The miracles I have witnessed confirm my faith rather than make it. There are many times before the Eucharist that the best I can say is, “I believe help my unbelief” or feeling discouraged, “Lord to whom else shall we go.” Never do I go to the Eucharist and not find some help. In the Eucharist, we worship the God who loves us so much as to become man, suffer and die in our place and leave us His very self in the Eucharist. Who can bear to wait for an appointment that is even a few minutes late? Jesus waits for us 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. His love is very much unappreciated. This is a crime. We have the greatest power for healing and good in the world, God Himself, and what he most frequently experiences from us is the coldness of indifference at best, or at worst sacrilege (unworthy reception of the Eucharist) at worst. Woe are we who will go to our judgment and have to explain to Jesus why we did not take advantage of the Eucharist. Will there be any excuse worthy enough to escape condemnation? Jesus loves us so much he suffers every outrage for our sake. He even allows himself to be abused in the Eucharist. People fail to observe Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist. They treat Him as a thing or even receive Jesus unworthily (with un-confessed mortal sin). These are outrages the likes of which you or I would never tolerate should they happen to us. However, we do not consider that they happen daily to Jesus by those who call themselves his friends. Jesus suffers these indignities because, to Him, all suffering is worth it if he can save one more soul. Jesus’ offer is never deficient. Do we want what he offers? I beg you to examine your conscience before receiving the Eucharist. Confess in the Sacrament of Confession any mor-tal sins. Now is the time of mercy. God wants to help us. He wants to share with our suffering and, through His suffering, bring us healing. I beg you also to come before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament outside of Mass also to receive the divine remedies which no one else can provide. If the time of “stay-at-home” has taught us anything, it is the limits of our human intervention. Earthly delights, as wonderful as they are, have limits. Let us turn instead to Jesus in the Eucharist. Let us share with him our joys, our sufferings, and even our fears. Let us also acknowledge the wounds in the heart of Jesus because he bore these wounds for us. Jesus is here for us; let us avail ourselves of His Eucharistic presence. Fr. Campeaux

Adorers for perpetual adoration needed

Monday 9:00 a.m. Tuesday 10:00 a.m. Wednesday 9:00 a.m.

“Come to me, all you that labor, and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 Please call Andrea Robinson at 223-0640 to commit spending an hour with the Lord.

Perpetual Adoration

In union with Christ’s passion, we offer up as sacrifice upon the fleshy altars of our hearts all that we lack. In return we receive from on high the fullness of Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist, and we see the Word become flesh in our own lives.

June 14

If my efforts do no more than to hinder one sin, I shall consider them well expended!

- St. John Francis Regis (1597-1640), Priest, Confessor, Feast Day June 16

Prayers for Fathers

God our Father,

In your wisdom and love you have created us and called us your own. Bless our

fathers, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers.

Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.

In moments of joy, rejoice with them. In times of struggle, give them your courage

and perseverance. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor and

appreciate them always with a spirit of profound respect. May the example and

prayer of St. Joseph inspire them to live their vocation with courage.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Tithes may now be dropped in the mail slot of

the front door of the church office.
