Principal’s chat
Last Friday the whole school travelled to the Castlemaine State Festival. A
great day was had by everyone. Here are some of their thoughts:
Seth: The show was great. We saw a man doing backflips and stuff.
Olivia: The man was a fisherman in the show. I liked the show.
Wilbur: I liked the printmaking.
Abi: I really liked drawing and making the prints.
Eva: I liked making the prints and
meeting other kids.
Zavier: We did drawings of Australian animals.
Digby: We did printing using our drawings. They were black and white.
Anthony: I really liked the show we watched. There was lots of action.
Liam F: We listened to a talk by artist Leeroy New and then we did some artwork with him. I made a mask.
Lanie: I liked making the masks and listening to Leeroy New. I also liked the play about the fisherman and his wife.
Arlen: I really enjoyed the way that the festival was run mostly by volunteers. The play had a lot of acrobatics.

Thank you to the parents who came along and helped out – your assistance is very much appreciated. Many thanks again to the Friends of the Castlemaine Library and the State Festival for donations towards our bus travel costs.
Just a reminder that all students are working on flags and compliments
to use when participating in the Maldon Easter Parade on Monday 17th
April. Many thanks to the parents who have returned the form indicating
that their child will be taking part. It is important that we know who is
participating so that Kathryn can ensure that they have their flag to
take home on Friday in preparation for the parade.
This Wednesday Helen’s class is heading off to the Maldon
Community Centre for the Community Lunch. Amy from the
Neighbourhood Centre invited us to take part and it is a great way to be
involved in our community. I am sure that the students will have a
delicious lunch and some great conversations with people from our
community.
This Thursday is also Helen’s last day at Maldon. Helen and her
class will be having a small celebration on Thursday. I would like to
thank Helen for her contribution to our team at Maldon. She has been a
wonderful asset and although I am very sad that she is leaving I wish her
all the best as she embarks on her new journey at Quarry Hill.
I have been really pleased with the progress our Grade 6 student
leaders have made over the term.
The school captains are very enthused about their role and I enjoy
meeting with them once a week to chat and discuss any problems,
issues, celebrations and positive things that are happening around our
school. It has been a great way for them to have a voice within the
school.
I have been meeting with all the grade 6 students once a week to
develop their leadership skills and we have also set up our Student
Action Groups which are outlined in the School Captain Update
below. I am very excited about some of the great ideas that they have
and look forward to working together with them next term.
This Friday is the last day of term 1. Although it has been a short
term it seems like we have achieved and experienced many things.
Just a reminder that the school day finishes at 2:30pm on Friday. I
hope that you all have a lovely break and enjoy Easter and I look
forward to seeing you all again on the first day of term 2 which is
Tuesday 18th
April.
Warm regards Jodie
School Captain update
Last week we finalised the leadership
groups that are completely run by year
sixes. We have six small groups that we
hope will make a difference in the
school. They are: the Chook Whisperers,
who will look after our chooks and other
animals if needed; the Savvy Sporties,
who will leave a sporty influence on this
school; the Pea Pods Healthy Living,
who will promote healthy living and
lifestyle; the Builders and Makers, who will use their knowledge and
skills to help the school; the Laidbacks, who will run quiet inside activities
during lunch time and last but not least are the Ultimate Computer
Champions, who will help the school with their tech problems.

Last week in the yard we found it nice and settled. We have also noticed that lots of eagle eye raffle tickets have
been handed out.
Last week we focused on the safety rule and congratulations to the award winners. This week the classroom rule
is the movement rule. This means that we move around appropriately in and outside of the classroom.

What’s happening in the classroom?
6C news: A great day was had by all the Grade 6’s as they celebrated Harmony Day last week. Students enjoyed creating a Hand of diversity, trying food from around the world, experiencing music and traditional dance from their chosen country and they also joined into a game of Bocce. A little diversity goes a long way. Happy Harmony day from Grade 6.
Grade 6 homework will be going home today as we had the Castlemaine Festival on Friday.
Young leaders:
Music: All students in 4/5H and 6C who have their school recorders at home please bring them in to school in readiness for term 2. Thanks!
