• Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with New Mexico State 1-0 after the Eagles downed the Aggies 36-28 last season in Las Cruces. • L.A. Ramsby ran for a career-high 136 yards and his 7-yard touchdown run with 11:37 left in the third quarter gave the Eagles their first lead of the night. Kevin Ellison put the game out of reach after an Aggie touchdown late in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard run up the middle with 2:41 remaining. • The Aggies jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Eagles scored 29 unanswered points to take their first lead of the game, a 29-14 advantage in the third quarter.

Gold ribboN Game

• Head coach Willie Fritz and his entire staff will be donning gold ribbons on their game polos this Saturday to raise awareness of childhood cancer. • Childhood cancer awareness has hit home this year with the addition of Andre Sims to the Eagles’ roster, who is contributing on offense and special teams. Sims, a senior transfer who graduated from Michigan State, has a younger brother who has dealt with the disease. • Sims’ 14-year-old brother, Alan Sims, received a liver transplant in 2013 and is in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia (A.L.L.), which he was diagnosed with at the age of four. • The transplant was the latest medical issue for Alan, a cancer survivor who completed treatments for A.L.L. in 2010. • The Michigan State community stepped up to help the Sims family and volunteers raise money for COTA, a national charity and non-profit organization providing fundraising assistance free of charge. • Alan is now an aspiring basketball player who wants to give back to other kids going through the same journey he went through.

coach willie FritZ When Coach Willie Fritz arrived in Statesboro in January, 2014 to interview for Georgia Southern’s head football coaching position, it may never have crossed his mind that he wasn’t going to leave. The day after Coach Fritz made his presentation to the search committee, Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein announced the hiring of Fritz as the ninth head football coach in the program’s modern history. Bishop Field House, the site of the announcement, was packed with media members, donors, Eagle fans, alumni and students on Jan. 10, 2014, where they were introduced to the man who would lead the Eagle Football program into a new era. The early returns on Kleinlein’s hire are positive as Fritz led the Eagles to a perfect 8-0 record in conference play to earn the Sun Belt Conference title. Fritz was also named the conference’s coach of the year for his team’s success. Fritz had the Eagles’ bowl eligible with a 9-3 overall record at the season’s end but the school’s waiver claim to allow Georgia Southern to play in a bowl despite being in the second year of the NCAA’s transition period was denied. The Eagles dominated both sides of the ball and led the Sun Belt in scoring offense, scoring defense, total offense and rushing offense. Now in his second season in Statesboro, Fritz carries a 13-4 record as the head man of the Eagles. A proven winner with more than 30 years of coaching experience, Fritz led Sam Houston State to back-to-back Southland Conference titles, NCAA FCS championship appearances in 2011 and 2012, and a third-straight playoff berth in 2013. In 22-plus years as a head coach, Fritz owns a 72.5 winning percentage with a record of 185-70-1 and more than a few trophies for his accomplishments at the national, regional and conference levels. The Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year at the FCS level in 2012, Fritz was recognized nationally in 2011 as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coach of the Year. Honored as the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012, Fritz was selected by the media and his peers in the Southland Conference as the league’s Coach of the Year in 2011 after his team went a perfect 7-0 in conference play. In 2011 and 2012, Sam Houston State posted the two highest single-season win totals in program history with marks of 14-1 (2011) and 11-4 (2012) and Bearkat players were showered with accolades. More than 50 earned All-Southland Conference honors under Fritz in the last four years, not including additional “Player of the Year,” “Offensive Player of the Year,” “Defensive Player of the Year,” and “Newcomer of the Year” awards. All-America status from national coaching and media outlets were bestowed on 11 Sam Houston State players during his tenure. Fritz came to Georgia Southern after four years as the head coach of the Bearkats and his most recent of three total tours in Huntsville. His resume includes a wealth of experience across the board, notably as a coach with an innate ability to connect with his players, demand accountability and build winning programs. After a highly successful tenure at Blinn College, averaging nearly 10 wins a season during his four years there, Fritz left to revitalize a Central Missouri program

and guided it to 11 winning seasons. The NCAA Division II program’s ledger included two 10-win seasons with the 2001 Mule squad earning its first postseason trip in more than 30 years. In 2002, Central Missouri made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs and was the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) co-champion a year later. A 97-47 mark in 13 seasons ranks Fritz as the winningest coach in the program’s century-long history. He was the only coach to ever win seven or more games in eight consecutive seasons and his victory total ranked him 15th among active Division II coaches at the time. In addition to his impressive .674 winning percentage with the Mules, Fritz coached his student-athletes to achieve their potential both on the field and in the classroom. More than 150 Mules were recognized with All-MIAA honors with 41 first-team selections and 24 All-Americans. Under Fritz, Central Missouri recorded a graduation rate of 84 percent with 144 MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll recipients, 14 Academic All-Region and three Academic All-Americans. Serving as a graduate assistant for the Bearkat program during the 1984 and 1985 seasons, Fritz earned a master’s degree in kinesiology while Sam Houston State posted a 16-6 record and won the 1985 Gulf Star Conference championship. He returned to Huntsville in 1991 after spending two years at Coffeyville College in Kansas under legendary Coach Dick Foster, earning a promotion to defensive coordinator after one year. He stayed another two years to work for Coach Skip Foster and the Red Ravens. Coach Ron Randleman brought Fritz back to the state of Texas and Sam Houston State as secondary and special teams coach in 1991, instilling an attitude of excellence on special teams that would last more than a decade. The Bearkats’ “block party” racked up 80 blocked punts, field goals and extra points beginning with Fritz in 1991 and lasting through 2004. In Fritz’s first year as a full-time assistant coach at Sam Houston State in 1991, the Bearkats won the Southland Conference. That league title and eight-win season launched SHSU to the program’s second-ever appearance in the NCAA playoffs. Fritz would leave Huntsville again, this time for an opportunity to be the head coach at Blinn College, where he would turn around a program that had only five wins in its previous three seasons. From 1993-96, Fritz and the Buccaneers would rack up 39 victories against only five losses with a tie and claim two national junior college championships. He was inducted into the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame for the environment of success he created at Blinn. One of seven children, Fritz is the son of the late Harry Fritz, who coached the Central Missouri football team in 1952 before continuing his career as the Executive Director at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in Kansas City. The elder Fritz also served at several colleges and universities in administration as an athletics director. Fritz played on two conference title teams and was a four-starter at defensive back for Coach Randleman at Pittsburg State and remained at his alma mater as a student assistant coach for his alma mater in 1982. • Of the 20 seniors on the 2015 roster, two Eagles are playing this fall as graduates of GS, with three others slated to graduate in December, four more in May, 2016 and another two scheduled to finish next summer. • Lennie Richardson and Antwione Williams have both graduated from GS while Cody Rediger, Jake Banta and Maurice Hunt are scheduled to graduate at the end of this semester. • In addition, four juniors - Nardo Govan, Sean Gaddy, James Dean and Montay Crockett - are slated to graduate in May. • Georgia Southern senior safety Matt Dobson was one of 14 players in the nation who scored multiple defensive touchdowns last season. Dobson returned an Idaho interception 26 yards for a touchdown in October and then recorded Georgia Southern’s longest play and longest interception return in history with his 100-yard return at Texas State earlier in November. • Dobson, who also had a career-best 12 tackles in that game, earned Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts. • Dobson is one of 197 football players across all divisions to be up for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, is one of 80 FBS players on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, both awards given for exemplary off-the-field work, is one of 30 up for the Senior CLASS Award, and is one of 135 semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy, which awards postgraduate scholarships. • Dobson finished his junior campaign with 62 tackles and three interceptions to earn second-team All-Sun Belt honors. He helped the Eagles preserve the victory and win the Sun Belt title with a pass break up inside the 1-yard line the final seconds against ULM in last year’s finale. • A second-team Capital One Academic All-America selection by CoSIDA in 2014, Dobson carries a 3.70 grade point average and was named to the Georgia Southern President’s List for posting a 4.0 in the 2015 spring semester. • A four-year member of Georgia Southern’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Dobson is very active in the community. When Georgia Southern started preseason camp in 2013, it joined an elite group of collegiate football teams employing the Helmet Impact Telemetry System (HITS), which measures and records every hit to the head during practices and games.

“We want to do everything we can to prevent our student athletes from suffering a head injury,” said former Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel, Ph.D.

“After the University received a $385,000 National Institutes of Health grant in 2011 to study concussions, we wanted to do more to get a better understanding of these injuries. The addition of this monitoring equipment will hopefully reduce the risks our Eagle players face on the field.”

With funding from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, Georgia Southern has equipped 40 helmets with the Riddell HITS system. There are six sensors inside each helmet that measures the severity of a hit to the head.

A typical impact in football lasts about 15 milliseconds, and in that instant, measurements from the sensors will be transmitted in nearly real-time to a laptop computer being monitored on the sidelines of all practices and games.

If a hit reaches a certain threshold, a pager worn by a graduate research student and the head athletics trainer will receive a notification and will follow with appropriate action with attention and, if they display any unusual behavior, a clinical evaluation to see if it is safe for him to continue playing or not.

Each impact is time stamped and can be synchronized with game video so coaches, athletics trainers and researchers can better evaluate the hits.

Less than two dozen schools are using the system around the country. Other schools to use the HITS system in their football programs include Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Oklahoma, putting GS at the forefront of concussion prevention in college football.

• Senior defensive lineman Lennie Richardson hasn’t taken a usual path to his final season as the Ashburn, Georgia, native first enrolled in college in 2007. • Georgia Southern, the FCS’s winningest team with more than 50 games played, posted a .718 winning percentage and 294 all-time wins to go along with its unprecedented six national championships. • The University announced its acceptance of an invitation to join the Sun Belt for the 2014-2015 academic year on March 27, 2013 and began its transition with the 2013 season. In 2014, the Eagles won the Sun Belt Conference championship win an 8-0 conference mark, but were denied their appeal for a bowl due to being in the final transitional year. GS is eligible for a bowl this season.

• Georgia Southern finished with a bowl eligible 9-3 record in the regular season but had its bowl waiver request denied by the NCAA. The Eagles will be bowl eligible this season after completing the two-year transition period.

• GS joined only Nevada (1992) and Marshall (1997) to win a conference title in their first year of FBS play, and became the first to go undefeated in conference play.

• Only Marshall (10-3) posted a better record in its first year in the FBS, but went 7-1 in the MAC.

• Head Coach Willie Fritz is in his 23rd career season and second at the helm of the Eagles.

• He has posted a career record of 189-71-1 (.726).

• Fritz led the Eagles to a 9-3 record and a perfect 8-0 mark in Sun Belt Conference play last season.

Nelson Hall of Fame atrium connects both wings of the building on the upper floor. Coaches’ offices, conference rooms, and position meeting rooms, as well as an expansive team room with stadium seating for more than 120, is on this level. • Spanning the majority of the field level, the athletic performance area is nearly four times the size of the old facility contains nearly $500,000 of equipment. • Flanking the new strength and conditioning space are the athletic training and equipment areas. • The locker room features 132 lockers branded with the GS logo and feature a custom name plate for each player. Compartments for hanging clothes, storing player’s helmet, shoulder pads and shoes are integrated into the design of the cherry wood veneer lockers. • Designed to maximize efficiency and storage, the new equipment room includes pass-through lockers for laundry service, space for travel trunks and a rail-based shelving system. • The athletic training space includes more than a dozen treatment areas and eight taping stations, as well as offices for staff and a physicians’ exam room. A large hydrotherapy room features both hot and cold tubs and an underwater treadmill with video monitoring system for therapy and rehabilitation.

football’s on-air broadcast crew. Blair is in his last season as the Voice of the Eagles before leaving Statesboro to become the play-by-play man for the LSU Tigers. • Blair will be replaced by Reed after the season. Reed has most recently served as broadcast/media relations manager for the Bowling Green Hot Rods and also spent three seasons as radio play-by-play announcer for The Citadel’s football, men’s basketball and baseball teams. • Games will be broadcast on 12 affiliates across the state and can also be heard free of charge on the Internet through GS All-Access. • In addition to game broadcasts, the network will air Inside Georgia Southern Football with Head Coach Willie Fritz live from Gnat’s Landing in Statesboro across the state on all 12 network affiliates. childhood caNcer hits home

• Head coach Willie Fritz and his entire staff donned gold ribbons on their game polos on Oct. 17 against New Mexico State to raise awareness of childhood cancer. • Childhood cancer awareness has hit home this year with the addition of Andre Sims to the Eagles’ roster. Sims, a senior transfer who graduated from Michigan State, has a younger brother who has dealt with the disease. • Sims’ 14-year-old brother, Alan Sims, received a liver transplant in 2013 and is in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia (A.L.L.), which he was diagnosed with at the age of four. • The transplant was the latest medical issue for Alan, a cancer survivor who completed treatments for A.L.L. in 2010. • The Michigan State community stepped up to help the Sims family and volunteers raise money for COTA, a national charity and non-profit organization providing fundraising assistance free of charge.

Yellow School Buses • When the football program was resurrected in 1981, the team needed a way to travel to practices and games. Operating on a shoestring budget didn’t allow for transportation back then, let alone any luxurious travel. The Bulloch County Board of Education stepped in with a deal the University couldn’t refuse: Georgia Southern would only pay $1 each for two yellow school buses. The football team still uses the buses to this day, taking them to practices and using them on game day, as well.

Six FCS NatioNal titleS | eleveN CoNFereNCe titleS @GSathletiCS_FBBeautiful Eagle Creek • When Georgia Southern resurrected the football program in 1981, traditions and spirit needed resurrection as well. So legendary head football coach Erk Russell created his own. Inspired by the gnat-infested drainage ditch that cut across the field between what was then the team’s locker room and practice fields, Russell convinced his players that its stagnant water was actually “Beautiful Eagle Creek,” a source of “magical” waters. • With the team now dressing at the Ted Smith Family Football Center, the yellow school buses now drop the team off and the players and staff run across a bridge that crosses Beautiful Eagle Creek to the practice field. • Coach Willie Fritz has his seniors participate in a “baptism” each preseason, which this year included new interim school president, Dr. Jean Bartels (bar-TELLS). The video and pictures (right) of Dr. Bartels and the team generated nearly 70,000 social media hits alone.

Freedom’s Flight • In what has become one of the most popular traditions at GS, “Freedom,” a male American Bald Eagle, takes flight before each home football game. Launching from high above the field, Freedom lands at midfield to the roar of thousands of Eagle students and fans. Freedom is a male Southern Bald Eagle that was found knocked out of the nest in Maitland, Florida. Only weeks old and appearing like a “brown ball of fuzz”, it was discovered that the young eagle had an injury to its beak and suffered from an infection. Rushed to the Florida Audubon Center for Birds of Prey, Freedom made a complete recovery from the infection but the injury to the beak was permanent, preventing his release into the wild. • With the permission of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Georgia Southern acquired Freedom in 2004. Through the Georgia Southern University Center for

Wildlife Education and Lamar Q Ball, Jr. Raptor Center, thousands of visitors young and old are embraced by the Power of Freedom.

Education, Freedom is on the sidelines of all GS home games, and select road games.

• Head coach Willie Fritz has said that this year’s schedule trumps last year’s in terms of toughness and many considered the 2014 schedule the toughest in school history. Game #1: Eagles Shut Out on the Road By Mountaineers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Karl Joseph picked off three passes, and Skyler Howard threw for 359 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead West Virginia to a 44-0 victory over Georgia Southern before 55,182 fans Saturday night at Milan Puskar Stadium. It was Georgia Southern’s first meeting against West Virginia on the gridiron and first game against a Big 12 opponent. Matt Breida led Georgia Southern with 70 rushing yards on 17 carries, and Favian Upshaw gained 64 yards on 16 carries. Howard completed 16-of-25 passes, and two Mountaineers had over 100 receiving yards. Shelton Gibson caught three passes for 130 yards and a touchdown, and Javon Durante had three receptions for 121 yards and a score. Wendell Smallwood finished with 11 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown, and Joseph tallied with eight tackles. Five turnovers and chunk plays over the top doomed the Eagles. The Mountaineers had four pass plays over 40 yards, including a 57-yard completion to Durante and a 57-yard reception by Gibson. Four interceptions and a fumble put the Eagle defense on its heels most of the night – Georgia Southern’s average field position was its own 20-yard line while West Virginia’s was its 37. Despite giving up some big pass plays, the Eagle defense held strong for the first 32 minutes of the contest before wearing down. West Virginia moved the ball inside the Eagle 20-yard line four times in the first half and came away with just nine points. In addition, the Mountaineers took over inside the Eagle 45-yard line twice and were forced to punt. Matt Dobson, Antwione Williams and Ironhead Gallon all posted eight tackles on the night, and Bernard Dawson collected 1.5 sacks. Trailing 16-0 at halftime, the Eagles turned it over on their first two possessions of the second half, and West Virginia made Georgia Southern pay on the second. After Joseph picked off an Upshaw pass at the West Virginia 28-yard line, Howard hit Daikiel Shorts for a 19-yard completing to set up a 6-yard TD run by Rushel Shell and a 23-0 lead. After the Eagles turned it over on downs at the Mountaineer 30-yard-line, West Virginia went the distance in four plays to open an insurmountable 30-0 cushion with 4:19 to go in the third quarter. Howard hit Durante with a 23-yard pass to start the drive and capped it with a 26-yard strike to Gibson in the corner of the end zone. A 19-yard run by Smallwood 1:37 into the fourth quarter put the game away. It was the first time the Eagles were kept off the scoreboard since a 45-0 loss at Montana in the 1995 I-AA playoffs, a streak of 242 games. The Eagles did not move the ball into West Virginia territory until their third possession of the second half.

Game #2: Breida, Glover Star in Home Opener

STATESBORO, Ga. – A week after getting shut out for the first time in nearly two decades, Georgia Southern rolled past Western Michigan with a 43-17 win in the Eagles’ home opener in Paulson Stadium. Matt Breida rushed for 176 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 16 yards a clip, and the offensive line helped the Eagles roll up 413 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, including 103 yards from quarterback Favian Upshaw, 82 from Wesley fields and 43 yards and a core from L.A. Ramsby. The defense and special teams turned in an excellent performances as well, and two interceptions by Antonio Glover in Bronco territory turned into 10 points for Georgia Southern. The senior safety added a third for good measure, tying the Paulson Stadium record for interceptions by an Eagle, and made seven tackles. Matt Dobson led the Eagles with nine stops and a breakup, and Georgia Southern gave up just 25 rushing yards. Zach Terrell threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns and connected with Daniel Braveman 13 times for 122 yards and a score to lead Western Michigan (0-2). After Western Michigan scored late in the first half, Breida put a damper on any thoughts of a comeback on the second play of the third quarter when he took a handoff, veered right and raced down the sideline for a 70-yard touchdown. It was the eighth time in the junior’s career that he has rushed for a touchdown of 50 yards or more and put the Eagles on top 30-9. Upshaw closed the door for good in the fourth quarter after Western Michigan scored a touchdown and added a two-point conversion to cut the margin to 33-17. The junior’s 40-yard scamper set up a 1-yard touchdown run for Ramsby, extending the cushion to 40-17 with 6:32 left in the game. After Western Michigan capped its first drive of the game with an Andrew Haldeman 34-yard field goal, Georgia Southern got on the scoreboard when Breida ran up the middle for a 9-yard touchdown with 3:21 left in the first quarter. The Terrell to Braveman show took over right before the end of the half as the two connected on pass plays six times for 68 yards. The last completion was a 7-yard touchdown with 28 seconds left, but the Broncos missed the extra point, making the margin 23-9 at halftime. It was the Eagles’ first home game against a non-conference FBS opponent and their first contest against any team from the state of Michigan.

Game #3: Georgia Southern Handles The Citadel, 48-13

STATESBORO, Ga. – Matt Breida rushed for 164 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Georgia Southern forced five Citadel turnovers as the Eagles topped the Bulldogs 48-13 before a record crowd on Military Appreciation Day in Paulson Stadium Saturday night. Breida took the handoff on the first play after a Bulldog punt in the second quarter and was untouched as he went straight up the middle. The Eagle receivers locked their men up on the outside for the junior to breeze up the field all alone to tie to fourth-longest touchdown run in school history. Kevin Ellison also made a little history, becoming the 14th Eagle to rush for over 2,000 career yards with a 9-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter. Breida and Ellison each rushed for two scores, while L.A. Ramsby and Wesley Fields added touchdown runs. Fields finished with 62 yards on 10 carries, and Ramsby added 60 yards on 10 carries. Chaz Thornton also ripped off a 66-yard run. The Eagle offense unleashed a bit of an aerial attack with 12 completions for 101 yards between Ellison and Favian Upshaw. Ryan Longoria had five receptions for 43 yards. Ross Alexander and Darrius White each picked off passes, and Antwione Williams led the Eagles with nine tackles. Thomas Banks had a forced fumble on special teams, and Logan Hunt added a forced fumble and five tackles. Evan McField led The Citadel with 163 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. The attendance of 24,872 was the largest regular-season crowd in Paulson Stadium history. The Eagles scored on their first five possessions of the night and tallied 13 points off of turnovers in the game. Alexander set the Eagles up deep in Bulldog territory with his first career interception on the third play of the contest, and Alex hanks nailed a 22-yard field goal to give the Eagles an early 3-0 cushion. Georgia Southern took seven minutes off the clock with a 16-play drive on its next possession, and Ellison plunged into the end zone from a yard out for a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Game #4: Eagles Open Sun Belt Slate With Tough Road Win at Idaho

MOSCOW, IDAHO – Matt Breida rushed 12 times for 179 yards and two scores, and Georgia Southern pounded out 441 yards and five touchdowns on the ground in a 44-20 Sun Belt Conference football victory over Idaho in the Kibbie Dome Saturday night. It was the Sun Belt opener for both teams, and the Eagles have now won nine straight SBC contests. Kevin Ellison ran for 134 yards and two scores on 13 carries and threw for 105 yards for the Eagles (3-1, 1-0), and L.A. Ramsby rushed for 64 yards on 11 attempts. BJ Johnson caught four passes for 93 yards, and Alex Hanks matched his career-high with three field goals. The Eagles held Idaho to 1-of-11 on 3rd down through the first 54 minutes of the contest, forced two turnovers and blocked a punt. Ironhead Gallon blocked the third kick of his career, while Jay Ellison and Caleb Williams each had interceptions. Chris DeLaRosa and Antwione Williams each had nine tackles. Matt Linehan completed 20-of-35 passes for 284 yards and two scores for Idaho (1-3, 0-1), and Dezmon Epps caught eight passes for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns. After clinging to a three-point lead at halftime, Georgia Southern scored touchdowns on its first two possessions of the second half to open a 30-13 cushion. Breida sparked the Eagles with a 66-yard touchdown run on the third play from scrimmage of the third quarter. The junior took a pitch from Ellison and ran down the right sideline, got a block from Ryan Longoria, cut back to the left, avoided two Vandals and turned on the jets, running all the way to the left sideline and diving into the end zone, where he laid on the carpet for a breather. It was the 11th touchdown run of 50-plus yards in his career. Ellison keyed the next scoring drive with a 53-yard run as the junior faked a pitch to the right and scampered through a big hole and down the right sideline. Ramsby kept the drive alive with a 10-yard run on 4th-and-3 from the Idaho 12-yard line, and Wesley Fields finished it off with a 2-yard touchdown run two plays later. Alex Hanks connected on all three field goal attempts and the Eagles churned out 568 yards of total offense in the game.

Game #5: Late Georgia Southern Push Stymies ULM Rally

MONROE, La. – L.A. Ramsby’s 41-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter thwarted ULM’s comeback bid, and Georgia Southern earned its 10th consecutive Sun Belt Conference victory with a 51-31 decision over the Warhawks Saturday night in Malone Stadium. After ULM trimmed a 31-3 deficit to seven points early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles faced 4th-and-inches from the ULM 41-yard line with all the momentum headed toward the Warhawks. Kevin Ellison turned and handed it off to Ramsby, who scooted through a hole on the left side and took it the distance to make the lead 38-24 and put the momentum back on the side of Georgia Southern (4-1, 2-0). The Eagle defense forced a 3-and-out with the aid of an errant snap on third down that rolled down to the ULM 5-yard line before it was recovered. A 32-yard punt into the wind gave Georgia Southern the ball at the Warhawk 37-yard line, and the Eagles drove down to the ULM 6-yard line, where Breida ran around right end for his second touchdown of the game to open a 45-24 advantage. ULM wasn’t quite finished, and Garrett Smith connected with Ajalen Holley for a 28-yard pass to key a 75-yard drive that took just two minutes off the clock. Smith connected with D’Marius Gillespie on a 10-yard touchdown pass with four minutes left to make the score 45-31. The Warhawks tried the on-side kick, but Matt Dobson attacked the football and recovered it for the Eagles. Wesley Fields took over from there, rushing eight times for 44 yards and running it in from four yards out to make the score 51-31 with 31 seconds left and put the game away. Ramsby finished with 98 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns, while Breida toted the rock 19 times for 149 yards and a pair of scores. Fields logged 92 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, and Ellison rushed for 74 yards and completed three passes for 48 yards. Georgia Southern rushed 67 times in the game, the most in a game under head coach Willie Fritz at GS. Ironhead Gallon had a career-high 11 tackles and blocked a punt, while Dobson, Darius Jones and Antonio Glover each intercepted Smith. Smith completed 21-of-36 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns for ULM (1-3, 0-1), and Holley finished with eight receptions for 166 yards.
