SHAC History

Established 1972 to “provide formal student participation into administration of UCLA Student Health Services”.

An officially recognized UCLA student committee Allows for funding from administration

SHAC-SHS advisory panel Provides oversight and input into the SHS Establish formal relationships with campus

groups and campus administrators

Mission

Support SHS mission of “quality, accessible, evidence-based health care to support the well-being of UCLA students in their pursuit of higher education”.

Compensation and Eligibility

Membership: 4 members appointed by Undergraduate Students

Association Council (USAC) 4 members appointed by Graduate Students Association

(GSA) Term of Service

One to two years, no more than 2 consecutive terms or 4 years.

SHAC Member Accountability: >1 unexcused absence per quarter Academic probation Disciplinary action by the university Required electronic presence

Officers

Undergraduate and Graduate co-chair. Elected annually at the first general meeting.

Stipends

Determined by student fee advisory committee $1800 per year Additional $900 for chair

Forfeit if missing 2 or more unexcused absences.

Meetings

General meetings: 4 per quarter Most of the work is done electronically

Special meetings Participates in the negotiation and selection of

Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) (~10 meetings)
