COLLECT: Lord, tireless guardian of your people, teach us to rely, day and night, on your care. Drive us to seek your justice and your help, and support our prayer lest we grow weary, for in you alone is our strength. FIRST READING: Jeremiah 31.27-34 The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of humans and the seed of animals. And just as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring evil, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord . In those days they shall no longer say: ʻThe parents have eaten sour grapes, and the childrenʼs teeth are set on edge.ʼ But all shall die for their own sins; the teeth of everyone who eats sour grapes shall be set on edge. The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. But wicked people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived. All: Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ THE HOLY GOSPEL: Luke 18.1-14 Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, ʻIn a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, “Grant me justice against my opponent.” For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, “Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.” ʼ And the Lord said, ʻListen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?ʼ He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: ʻTwo men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax-collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, “God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.” But the tax-collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.ʼ This is the Gospel of the Lord. Simon Chan, creator of "The Happy Prince", is holding auditions for his new amateur production of "Romeo and Juliet". He is especially looking for older actors to play the lead roles, and younger ones for the supporting cast. Auditions will take place in the church hall, this Wednesday October 19, at 7pm. All rehearsals will take place on Wednesday evenings at the hall, and any monies raised will go to the St Mary's restoration fund. The audition will be a reading of the famous balcony scene.

Gorgeous French music for strings and piano, including the Ravel trio, Faure's Piano Quartet in C minor, and a couple of delicious treats. Free parking on site, cash bar available. Mingle with the artists after the concert, and enjoy a drink, complimentary snacks, and the stunning view from St Mary's over the Brisbane River. With Christa Powell (violin, Topology), Bernard Hoey (viola, Topology), Matthew Kinmont (cello, QSO), Therese Milanovic (piano, Topology). PILGRIM:  Fr  Gary  will  be  offering  the  first  part  of  the  Pilgrim  course  on  Tuesday  nights  in  November.  Suggested  start  time  is  7.30pm  but  if  7pm  is  preferable  then  that  is  also  okay.    Please  add  your  name  to  the  list  at  the  entrance  to  the  Church.    

~~ St Maryʼs will focus on our Christian Stewardship over the next three Sundays. A package of information will be handed out to all parishioners this week. As explained in that information without your ongoing regular financial support, the Parish will be unable to continue to offer the Ministries and services that we have enjoyed in the past. Please assist us, as we endeavour to grow the Parish, in a sustainable manner, into the future.    

Our stewardship will culminate on Sunday the 30th October as Commitment Sunday. The Parish will celebrate with a parish brunch afterwards. The information package contains information and a commitment card. You are encouraged to complete the commitment card and return it in the box supplied at the entrance to the church by or on Sunday the 30th October.

~~ FOCUS Magazine: The October/November edition of FOCUS has arrived. Please take a copy from the table at the back of the Church as you leave today.

~~ Are you able to assist with morning tea after Church? This is an important time for people who worship here at St Maryʼs. It is not onerous and Morning teaʼs can be kept very simple as it is the gathering of people that is important. We are trying to ensure that morning tea is available each week. Please see Alex if you can assist.

Brisbane Open House was again a successful & delightful day at St Maryʼs. St Maryʼs had 10 volunteers and 132 visitors on the Sunday 9th October. This continues the slow increase in numbers attending over the years. Thanks to Kay Foreman & Ernie Hertle the co-ordinators; and all who helped on the day. Donations on the day, including sale of Albiʼs jam, were approx $100. Thanks also to our special volunteers Earl, Sean and Ali who over the past few weeks have been compiling history and maintaining our grounds. This also helped improve what we could offer last Sunday. Already we have new ideas for 2017. Many thanks to Judy Noble who has made Christmas wreaths. The first lot has sold out, and there will be more available today.

Adam  and  Carla  were  married  at  St  Mary’s  last  Saturday.    They  also  help  out  on  the  St  Mary’s  drinks  team.    Carla  arrived  at  St  Mary’s  with  her  mother,  Abigail,  both  sitting  in  the  back  of  Carla’s  mini.  Adam  suggested  that  this  photo  should  be  in  the  pew  bulletin  every  week!
