From Father Mike
This weekend in the Catholic liturgy is the
Fifth Sunday of Easter, but most of us think of
this Sunday as Mother’s Day. If you are living
with your mother, you are even more aware
of how much she does for you and how
precious a gift she is in your life. If you are
like me and cannot see your mother in
person, it is strange to show your love for
your mother by staying away from her but
spend more time with her on the phone or
over video. And if your mother has already
passed away, you can be grateful that you
can manage the current crisis better from
the love and strength you received from her
throughout the years. More importantly, in
whatever way we have experienced
goodness from our mothers, we should
recognize it as another encounter with the
Risen Lord.
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells his disciples
that they will know the way to where Jesus
is going. Thomas responds with the
question, “Master, we do not know where
you are going; how can we know the
way?” It is then that we hear the famous
line from Jesus when he says to him, “I am
the way and the truth and the life.” These
are timely words as we all struggle with the
issue of finding a way to reopen various
parts of our lives, including our parish
community.
But I would suggest that we need to think
about reuniting in person with each other
more than reopening our church life. While
the church building has been closed, the
life of the church has not only been open
but expanded in many ways. If your primary
experience of the parish has only been that
you are not going to the church building on
Saturday or Sunday, than perhaps we all
need to work at getting our parish open
more than re-opened. For example, I hope
that we have all tried to keep in even more
contact with others in the parish, in which
case you then are experiencing what it
means to be church. Our longing for the
Eucharist is one of reuniting with Christ in the
Sacrament and together as the Body of
Christ.
Also, we need to be preparing ourselves
for the reality that both the timing and
manner of reuniting will be dictated more
by the virus and our ability to be around
each other safely than our wishing for
everything to be back to normal. Even
more importantly, we need to consider that
the Holy Spirit is guiding us through
the gradual process of reuniting in ways
that are physically and spiritually beneficial.
For example, be prepared that we could
be initially gathering in limited ways with a
small number of people who are wearing
masks and keeping six feet away from each
other.
Nevertheless, we should not be
despondent but joyful if we truly believe
Jesus is leading us through this crisis,
keeping us united in spirit, and helping to
grow in our faith. Let us put our full belief in
Christ as our way, our truth, and our life.
pregunta: “Maestro, no sabemos a dónde
incluida nuestra comunidad parroquial.
nuestra vida.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are
present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I
love You above all things, and I desire
to receive You into my soul. Since I
cannot at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least spiritually
into my heart. I embrace You as if You
were already there and unite myself
wholly to You. Never permit me to be
s e p a r a t e d f r o m Y o u .
Amen.
ACTO DE COMUNION ESPIRITUAL
Creo Señor mío que éstas realmente
presente en el Santísimo Sacramento
del altar. Te amo sobre todas las cosas
y deseo ardientemente recibirte
dentro de mi alma; pero, no pudiendo
hacerlo ahora sacramentalmente, ven
Amen.

BLESSING OF MOTHERS
Loving God,
as a mother gives life
and nourishment to her children,
so you watch over your Church.
Bless these women,
that they may be strengthened
as Christian mothers.
Let the example of their faith
and love shine forth.
Grant that we,
their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
(from the Book of Blessings)
BENDICION DE MADRES
Padre amoroso,
brille.
Concédenos que nosotros,
sus hijos e hijas,
podamos honrarlas siempre
con un espíritu de profundo respeto.
Por Jesucristo, nuestro Señor.
