FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP

Last Weekend’s Regular Collection

Rochester - $2,885

Monterey - $907

Kewanna - $555

From Father Mike

In today’s first reading, the passage from the book of Sirach brings up a common

theme found throughout much of the Scriptures when it says, “The LORD is a God

of justice…he hears the cry of the oppressed.” The church has developed a

theology of social justice that can be summarized in the notion that God shows a

preferential option for the poor. The Uniting in Heart 2030 Pastoral Plan is rooted in

the three pillars of worship, community, and witness, the last emphasizing that our

parishes need to look outward and activate our faith in service to our local

communities, especially in helping those most in need. This time of year we

normally have several opportunities to participate in these outreach activities,

including Trunk or Treat at the Rochester City Park on Halloween, a new Veteran’s

Dinner on Sun, Nov. 10 at St. Joseph Parish Hall, the Christmas Food Baskets for

United Ministries and Kewanna Food Pantry, assisting our youth making visits to

area nursing homes during the holidays, and the Breakfast and Pie Auction for our

sister parish in Haiti the Sunday before Thanksgiving at St. Joseph Parish Hall.

Speaking of Haiti, another update just last week from Fr. Rafael brings word of

worsening conditions as people continue to be unable to get around nor buy

food. At times there is little we can do to address even the basic needs of people,

which is what makes prayer even more vital. Our desire to offer spiritual sacrifices

can be our extra motivation to attend Mass this week for the Solemnity of All

Saints. May our service to others always be rooted in prayer, where we place

ourselves in solidarity with those among us who suffer—for “the Lord hears the cry

of the poor.”

PLEASE NOTE
