Section A: PLAN OF ACTION CHALKED OUT BY THE IQAC IN THE BEGINNING
OF THE YEAR TOWARDS QUALITY ENHANCEMENT AND THE
OUTCOME ACHIEVED BY THE END OF THE YEAR.
To organize different co-curricular activities to motivate students to achieve
excellence in co-curricular activities.
The institute organizes various activities for the students of the institute. These
activities not only help the students to develop confidence but also gives them
varied experiences and helps them to develop certain skills like event management,
oratory skills etc.
Inter Collegiate Swami Vivekanand Elocution Competition organized at
SMPIC
To commemorate 150th
birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand, SMPIC organized
Swami Vivekanand Elocution Competition for various colleges of Gujarat Law
Society on 12th
January 2012. Around 14 participants spoke on the topic “Active
Participation of Youth In Politics will make India Corruption Free and safe”. The
winners of the competition were awarded with cash prizes and the certificates.
State Level Accounting Talent Hunt and Commerce Talent Hunt 2012
S. M. Patel Institute of Commerce and Indian Accounting Association (Gujarat
Branch)jointly organised state level Accounting Talent Hunt for college students
and state level Commerce Talent Hunt for higher secondary commerce students on
28th January,2012. Nearly 500 students across the Gujarat state participated in this
competition.
Facets 2012
More than 150 students participated in Fashion Show, Western Dance and
Costume designing competitions of Facets 2012 held on 9th January, 2012 at
Tagore Hall. The event was judged by Shri Keyur Desai, Ms. Rajika Kacheria and
Mr. Hemant Kotekar
In-House Fine Arts Competition
SMPIC organized the following In-House Fine Arts Competition on 2nd
Sept. 2011
in the college premises.
Civil Defence Day SMPIC celebrated Civil Defence Day from 3
rd December to 5
th December 2012 in
which around 100 students participated in the following activities:
Essay Writing Debate Merathone
To motivate more number of students to pursue professional and higher
education programmes
The institute has observed a remarkable increase in number of students pursuing
professional courses like CA, CS, ICWA and the courses offered by NIFT,
Aviation academies etc. Many students prepared, appeared and cleared various
competitive exams. Majority of them were pursuing CA and CS courses.
To encourage faculty members and students to take part in national and
international seminar/conference.
Many faculty members presented papers in seminars and conferences the details of
which are included at appropriate place in the report.
To organize educational and industrial visits to various industries and
organizations.
SMPIC conducts industrial visits and educational tours with an objective to bridge
the gap between theoretical and practical application of the subject knowledge and
thus widen their knowledge horizons. This year students were taken to the
following places:
Visit To Gujarat Ashram (Vasad), Varakhadi And Angur Pulse Mill
On 11th February 2012 60 students of SMPIC visited Gujarat ashram of Shri
Shri Ravishankar at Vasad where they attended a session on “ HEALTH AND
HAPPINESS”. Students were taught values of time, good health and good habits.
Later they were taken to Verakhadi which is a picnic spot near river Mahi which
enhanced their knowledge about environment and importance of river in human
life. They also visited Radheshyam pulse mill which produces an exports Tuver
Dal with the brand name Angur. They were shown the production process and
encourage to ask various questions. Overall the trip enhanced the knowledge of
spirituality, environment and technology in their life.
Study Enhancement Visit at AMA
On 15th March 2012 S.M.Patel Institute of Commerce organized study
enhancement program for students of B com and M com at AMA. The incharge
faculties Prof Krupa Bhatt and Prof Nasheman Bandookwala along with 34
students went to AMA at 8.30 am. The sessions were organized at two levels. The
first session was on “Motivation and Career Development “conducted by Dr.Vikas
Arora , director of Atmiya Institute, Rajkot. The second session was conducted by
Mr. Sudhir Chatterjee, a professional on advertising on “Brand Management” .The
session lasted up to 1.30pm followed by lunch. The students were awarded
participation certificate from AMA.
To enhance English proficiency of first year students
Bridge Course
SMPIC successfully conducted Bridge Course to develop English Proficiency
skills of first year students. 128 students enrolled for the course and given training
of English Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking skills. They also appeared
for the SCOPE examination at the end of the course.
To organize various workshops for the all round development of the students.
The institute organizes various workshops for wholesome experience of students:
Personality Development Workshop
More than 200 students participated in two rounds of seven day personality
development workshop by Ms. Riddhi Doshi organized by the English
Department of SMPIC from 2nd
to 19th
Sept. 2011. The workshop included Dance
Meditation – for creating a Positive Attitude, Improving Body Language (non-
verbal communication) , Managing Stress positively, Impressive Presentation
Skills Management, Art of Public speaking, Art of Dressing and Raising Self
Esteem.
SMPIC Theatre Workshop
An inter college theatre workshop, INSIDE THEATRE was organized from 2nd
August to 9th
August, 2011. This week long workshop encompassed elaborate
discussion performance of various aspects of theatre. The workshop was conducted
by Mr. Kabir Thakore, an architect by profession and a theatre activist by vocation.
Various experts of theatre field also came and enriched the students. Around 33
students of various colleges of GLS participated in the workshop. The students not
only learned the nuances of theatre but enthralled the audience with a beautiful
performance on the last day of the workshop.
Dance Workshop
Hardik Raval conducted Dance workshop for a week in the college premises in
which around 100 college students participated.
To conduct more number of activities in various clubs.
Statistics club activities
A seminar on “Statistics in clinical research” was organized by SMPIC Statistics
Club on 25th
July, 2011 in the college premises in which around 50 students
participated. It was graced by Prof. Shweta Patel, a senior research assistant at
PERD.
An In-house elocution competition was organized by SMPIC Statistic club on 28th
July, Thursday to groom the students for the future prospects of statistics and to
improve and enhance their subject knowledge. Around 25 students actively
participated in the competition.

An In house presentation competition on Statistics for the enhancement of
knowledge and better understanding of application of statistical theories and
techniques in the context of current scenario was organized on 24th August, 2011.
18 finalists made presentations on various application oriented statistical tools like
demography, classical and inferential statistics. The competition was judged by
Dr. Rajshri Bhatt, Head of Statistic Department, Gujarat University and Vice
President of Gujarat Statistic Association.
English Club Activities

Film Club
SMPIC organized the screening of the film Wuthering Heights for second year
B.com students at GLS Auditorium on 23rd
January,2012.
To organize guest lectures and invite expert faculties to deliver lectures at the
institute to promote interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.
The institute has been inviting eminent personalities from the industry as guest
faculties who would share the real life experiences with the students. This year the
institute organized:
Visual Lecture on OPERATION SAVDHAN
SMPIC organized visual lecture on OPERATION SAVDHAN an initiative by
Gujarat police department on 19th Sept.,2011.
Management Lecture Series 2011 At Smpic S. M. Patel Institute of Commerce organized the Management lecture series from
19th December to 26
th December,2011 at GLS Auditorium. The purpose behind
organizing such lecture series was to bridge the gap between the theoretical
knowledge and practical skills of the students. The attempt was to cover areas and
subjects which are not included in the UG Commerce curriculum but are essential
for professional success. Around 270 students of SMPIC and 10 BBA students
from sister concern Institutes of GLS attended the Lecture series. Mr. Devang
Nanavati, Hon. Secretary GLS inaugurated the Management Lecture Series. Shri
Devang Nanavati,Ms. Vibhuti Bhatt, Ms. Deepa Sanghavi, Mr. Harshvardhan
Sharma, Ms. Jayshree Mehta and Mr. Vivek Randeria were the speakers of the
lecture series.
Career Guidance Seminar
SMPIC organised a Career Guidance Seminar on 26th March at GLS Auditorium
at 9.00 a.m. Students were also given guidance on various career options after 12th
Std. and B.Com. like CA, CS, ICWA, MBA, MCA and foreign prospects.
The speakers for the day were CA Prakash Udeshi , Shri Anil Mehta, Shri B. M.
Patel, Dr. R. P. Soni, Shri Dharmesh Shah and DR. H. S. Oza.
Workshop on financial planning ( SEBI)
SMPIC organized a workshop on Financial Planning on 17th
Sept., 2011 at SMPIC
in association with security exchange Board of India. Mr. Palak Lotia delivered
information on Financial planning.
To organize charity activities to sensitize students toward various issues
To bring social awareness among students and inculcate a value system and a sense
of responsibility towards society, students were encouraged to get involved in
charity activities towards cause of society.
Blood Donation Camp
SMPIC organized blood donation camp in association with Red Cross on 15th
Sept., 2011 at GLS campus. Around 51 bottles were donated by the college
students.
Again S. M. Patel Institute of Commerce in association with Prathama Blood
Centre organized blood donation camp on 28th December,2011. 43 students
donated blood and 13 students participated in Thalassaemia Test.
PRAYAS ...A Charity Mission We at S.M.Patel Institute of Commerce have initiated “PRAYAS”...A charity
mission. The noble cause was carried out for three days viz 26th
,27th and
28th
December 2011. The basic objective behind PRAYAS was to inbibe sense of
social responsibility among our students. On 26th
Dec our Principal Dr.Ashwin
Purohit along with cordinators Prof Krupa Bhatt , Prof Nasheman Bandookwala
and 200 students visited Ambawadi Municiple School no.26. We gifted three
blackboards to the school and distributed fruits,socks,biscuits,cakes,wafers and
stationery to 320 students of the school. College students sang a prayer and
arranged a quiz for the school kids.Our team was in the school from 12.15pm to
3.00 pm.
On 27th
Dec 2011, we visited Children‟s Cancer Ward, Civil hospital at 12.30pm.
Our Principal personally met all the suffering patients and gifted toys, socks, wafer
to 50 patients of the ward and OPD. Many faculties and students joined which
showcases the concern of our staff and students.
On 28th
Dec 2011, we visited “Jeevan Sandhiya”- A Old Age home between
9.00am and 1.30pm which was very wonderful experience for all of us. Our
students were counseled by the trustee-Mr Farsubhai . He narrated his experience
which was very touching for all of us.Our Principal , faculties and 120
students met old people there and exchanged notes . We distributed a kit
consisting of Vicks balm, Vaseline, hair oil, socks, napkin and fruits to 200
inhabitants of the Jeevan sandhiya.
Nishulk shikshan sahayak scheme
SMPIC teaches the poor students of 10th and 12
th Std. of Sanand district under the
Nishulk shikshan sahayak scheme free of cost since 2007-8. Students are given
Note books and study material free of cost.
To add new reference books/journal/periodicals/e-resources in the library.
The institute library has been enriched by more books, journals and periodicals.
Encourage faculties to write study materials for the students.
Faculty members prepared study material for foundation and soft skill course for
all semester I and II introduced in the new CBCS system.
An International Seminar on Environment Conservation and Protection
SMPIC organized an international seminar on Environment Conservation and
Protection on 27th
July, 2011 in the college premises. The project was directed by
Mr. Raag Patel, the head of Nature Conservation Foundation, Gujarat and it was
co-ordinated by Megha Parikh, the chief co-ordinator of the project. 15 interns
from 8 different countries like Italy, Poland, Russia and China conducted seminar
with the motto of “ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION”.
Open Discussion
SMPIC organized open discussion with Mr. Sandeep Pandey on topic “ ARE WE
RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN” on 30th Aug., 2011 in the college premises.
A Seminar on Environmental Conservation How To Create Eco Friendly
Homes (Under CWDC)
On 11th September 2011 SMPIC organized a seminar on how to create eco friendly
homes and invited Dr. Mukul Shah, pro vice chancellor Gujarat University and
Shri Sudhir Nanavati. Nearly 300 students of SMPIC and convenors of various
colleges attended the seminar. First technical session included lectures of Amit
Badlani of Go Green Mechanism Private limited and Alisha Attarwala of Furhat
Rain Water Harvesting. They explained various methods of saving environment at
basic level. Second technical session included paper presentation of SMPIC
students on various topics related to eco-friendly methods of living life.
Environment Awareness Programme In Various College.
SMPIC took the lead to create awareness and sensitize students about environment.
They stressed on the topic “ HOW TO CREATE ECO FRIENDLY HOME” and
made power point presentation on ways to save water , save electricity , garbage
management , eco-friendly methods. Colleges visited on 23rd
Jan and 30th Jan
2012 for this programme at S.V. ARTS COLLEGE, SARASPUR ARTS AND
COMMERCE COLLEGE, B.D. ARTS COLLEGE AND C.U SHAH ARTS
COLLEGE. Principal, faculty and students gave overwhelming response. Students
made presentation were Aman Jain, Shefali Jain, Pratik Chowksi, Batul Gandhi,
Khushbu Parikh and Abha Suri.

2. New academic programmes initiated(UG and PG)
No new academic programs are initiated during this year but CBCS is applied for
semester I and II students.
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:
The institute is affiliated with Gujarat University and the syllabus of all commerce
colleges at Gujarat University is designed by the university itself and is to be
implemented without any flexibility. The faculty members of the college have
actively participated to design and modify the syllabi of the university by sparing
their services in the bodies like Board of studies, research and development cell
etc.
In order to enhance English language proficiency of the students, we run the
Bridge course at the end of which students appear for SCOPE exam and are
awarded Cambridge University Certificate.
Government of Gujarat has initiated the program, „sandhan‟ which is a state level
program which carries out satellite lecture series. Many of our faculty members
have actively contributed to these lectures carried our at BISAG Sandhan.

7. Initiatives towards faculty development programmes
The institute generously grants duty leave as well as moral financial and
infrastructural support to faculty members for participating in seminars
conferences and workshops. Due to this effort several faculty members had been
the part of such programs.

This year, the institute organized various lectures, seminars and workshops to
corroborate the theoretical knowledge and skills of our students and faculty
members.
National Conference on `Emerging Trends In Accounting Process And
Taxation System‟ SMPIC organized One day National Conference on “EMERGING TRENDS IN
ACCOUNTING PROCESS AND TAXATION SYSTEM” on 10th
March,
Saturday, 2012 at GLS Auditorium. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr.
Parimal Trivedi, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat University, , CA Sunil Talati Former
President ICAI, Dr. B.H.Joshi Registrar, GLS and Dr. Prof. Harish Oza, President
of Indian Accounting Association, Gujarat Branch. Dr. Ashwin Purohit Principal,
SMPIC delivered the welcome address on the occasion. Dr Parimal Trivedi
motivated all faculty members to conduct substantial research work. Shri CA
Sunil Talati talked about the recent changes in the field of Accounting and
Taxation. He motivated the participants to learn and teach the emerging concepts
in the classroom i.e. IFRS. Dr. B.H.Joshi, Registrar, GLS acknowledged the efforts
of SMPIC for organizing such conference. Conference secretary Prof. M.E.Jokhi
proposed the vote of thanks. In the first technical session two keynote speakers
delivered their address. CA Dhinal Shah, Central Council Member, ICAI very
meticulously explained the intricacies of “Revised Schedule-VI”. CA Amal Dhru
talked about “How to read budget”. In the second technical session, 28 papers
were presented. Professor S.S.Shah, Chairman WIRC, Institute of Cost
Accountants of India and CA (Dr.) N.V.Suchak , Associate Professor
R.J.T.College of Commerce chaired the session. 120 participants attended the
conference. The conference ended with the Valedictory function, where Dr
N.D.Shah, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Gujarat University and Dr H.S.Oza
president of Indian Accounting Association, Gujarat Branch graced the dais and
addressed the audience. The delegates were also called to express their views on
the conference.
Career Guidance Seminar
SMPIC every year organizes a State Level Account-Commerce Talent Hunt
competition in association with Indian Accounting Association (Guj.Branch). This
year also around 500 students participated from various schools and colleges
across the state. To award the meritorious students with certificate trophies and
cash prizes worth Rs.22000 SMPIC organised a Career Guidance Seminar and
Prize Distribution Function on 26th March at GLS Auditorium at 9.00 a.m.
Students were also given guidance on various career options after 12th Std. and
B.Com. like CA, CS, ICWA, MBA, MCA and foreign prospects.
Renowned speakers for the day were CA Prakash Udeshi , Shri Anil Mehta, Shri
B.M.Patel, Dr. R.P.Soni, Shri Dharmesh Shah and DR. H.S.Oza.
Management Lecture Series 2011 S. M. Patel Institute of Commerce organized the Management lecture series from
19th December to 26
th December,2011 at GLS Auditorium. The purpose behind
organizing such lecture series was to bridge the gap between the theoretical
knowledge and practical skills of the students. The attempt was to cover areas and
subjects which are not included in the UG Commerce curriculum but are essential
for professional success. Around 270 students of SMPIC and 10 BBA students
from sister concern Institutes of GLS attended the Lecture series. Mr. Devang
Nanavati, Hon. Secretary GLS inaugurated the Management Lecture Series. Shri
Devang Nanavati,Ms. Vibhuti Bhatt, Ms. Deepa Sanghavi, Mr. Harshvardhan
Sharma, Ms. Jayshree Mehta and Mr. Vivek Randeria were the speakers of the
lecture series.
Personality Development Workshop
More than 200 students participated in two rounds of seven day personality
development workshop by Ms. Riddhi Doshi organized by the English
Department of SMPIC from 2nd
to 19th
Sept. 2011. The workshop included Dance
Meditation – for creating a Positive Attitude, Improving Body Language (non-
verbal communication) , Managing Stress positively, Impressive Presentation
Skills Management, Art of Public speaking, Art of Dressing and Raising Self
Esteem.
Workshop on financial planning ( SEBI)
SMPIC organized a workshop on Financial Planning on 17th
Sept., 2011 at SMPIC
in association with security exchange Board of India. Mr. Palak Lotia delivered
information on Financial planning.
Dance Workshop
Hardik Raval conducted Dance workshop for a week in the college premises in
which around 100 college students participated.
Threatre Workshop – Inside Theatre.
An inter college theatre workshop, INSIDE THEATRE was organized from 2nd
August to 9th
August, 2011. This week long workshop encompassed elaborate
discussion performance of various aspects of theatre. The workshop was conducted
by Mr. Kabir Thakore, an architect by profession and a theatre activist by vocation.
Various experts of theatre field also came and enriched the students. Around 33
students of various colleges of GLS participated in the workshop. The students not
only learned the nuances of theatre but enthralled the audience with a beautiful
performance on the last day of the workshop.

Visual Lecture on OPERATION SAVDHAN
SMPIC organized visual lecture on OPERATION SAVDHAN an initiative by
Gujarat police department on 19th Sept., 2011.
An International Seminar on Environment Conservation and Protection
SMPIC organized an international seminar on Environment Conservation and
Protection on 27th
July, 2011 in the college premises. The project was directed by
Mr. Raag Patel, the head of Nature Conservation Foundation, Gujarat and it was
co-ordinated by Megha Parikh, the chief co-ordinator of the project. 15 interns
from 8 different countries like Italy, Poland, Russia and China conducted seminar
for “ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION”.
Open Discussion
SMPIC organized open discussion with Mr. Sandeep Pandey on topic “ ARE WE
RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN” on 30th Aug., 2011 in the college premises.
Our Charity Project- „Prayas‟
We at S.M.Patel Institute of Commerce have initiated “PRAYAS”...A charity
mission. The noble cause was carried out for three days viz 26th, 27th
and 28
th
December 2011. The basic objective behind PRAYAS was to inbibe sense of
social responsibility among our students. On 26th
Dec our Principal Dr.Ashwin
Purohit along with cordinators Prof Krupa Bhatt , Prof Nasheman Bandookwala
and 200 students visited Ambawadi Municiple School no.26. We gifted three
blackboards to the school and distributed fruits,socks,biscuits,cakes,wafers and
stationery to 320 students of the school. College students sang a prayer and
arranged a quiz for the school kids.Our team was in the school from 12.15pm to
3.00 pm.
On 27th
Dec 2011, we visited Children‟s Cancer Ward, Civil hospital at 12.30pm.
Our Principal personally met all the suffering patients and gifted toys,socks, wafer
to 50 patients of the ward and OPD. Many faculties and students joined which
showcases the concern of our staff and students.
On 28th
Dec 2011, we visited “Jeevan Sandhiya”- A Old Age home between
9.00am and 1.30pm which was very wonderful experience for all of us. Our
students were counselled by the trustee-Mr Farsubhai . He narrated his experience
which was very touching for all of us. Our Principal, faculties and 120
students met old people there and exchanged notes. We distributed a kit consisting
of Vicks balm, Vaseline,hair oil,socks,napkin and fruits to 200 inhabitants of the
Jeevan sandhiya.
Nishulk shikshan Abhiyan
SMPIC teaches the poor students of 10th and 12
th Std. of Sanand district under the
Nishulk shikshan Abhiyan free of cost since 2007-8. Students are given Note
books and study material free of cost.
Blood Donation Camps
SMPIC organized blood donation camp in association with Red Cross on
15th Sept., 2011 at GLS campus. Around 50 bottles were donated by the
college students.
SMPIC in association with Prathama Blood Centre organized blood
donation camp on 28th December,2011. 43 students donated blood and 13
students participated in Thalassaemia Test.
Civil Defence Day
SMPIC celebrated Civil Defence Day from 3rd
December to 5th December 2012 in
which around 100 students participated in the following activities:
Essay Writing, Debate Marathon.

23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the
action taken on student feedback:
Under the guidance of authority, the feedback of the performance of all teachers
was taken from students. On the basis of feedback analysis, corrective actions were
taken by Principal by informally interacting with the concerned faculty members.
24. Feedback from stockholders:
Students: The institute takes feedback from students every year which is analyzed
by the principal. He discusses constructive suggestions from the students with the
faculty members to bring improvement in the curriculum. The feedback system is
also monitored by the college management to ensure corrective measures are
taken, where needed. Suggestions along with rationale for such suggestions are
forwarded to University to make necessary changes.
Parents: Feedback is taken from parents during Parent Teacher meet and during
informal visit to the college by the parents.
Teachers: Teacher feedback is orally taken in the various meetings regarding
academic planning, examination, and organizing different college activities.

26. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and
examination results, issue of certificates
The college office is fully computerized. All operations of administration,
examination results, and maintenance of attendance record, student intimations are
handled with the aid of computers. College has its own website which is regularly
updated.
27. Increase in the infrastructural facilities
New computers were purchased and three printers were purchased. Two walky
mikes were purchased. We also purchased a new mike system. New furniture items
were purchased. New electronic installations were made.
28. Technology upgradation
Institute website is updated on regular basis.
New computers with Internet facilities are installed in the library and staff room.
29. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non-teaching
staff and students
Every staff member is computer savvy so they don‟t need any formal training for
the same. However, the institute arranges need Base training for its staff.
Our faculty members use computers and laptops for preparing documents, lecture
material and their power point presentations.
The internet access is available in the library, college office, staff room and
principal‟s cabin.
The institute provides Tally training which is popular accounting software to the
students.
30 Financial aid to students Students who have secured positions among top 10 rankers in Gujarat University
Examination are awarded scholarship equal to the amount of their college fees(Full
Amount).
Students who have secured positions among top 50 rankers in Gujarat University
Examination are awarded scholarship equal to the amount of their half college fees.
Reserve category students get financial support in form of full fees and other
expenditure.
Certain students get financial support from their community associations.
31 Activities and support from the Alumini Association
GLS management has a Central Alumini Association which organizes various
programs in which our institute participates on regular bases. Our outgoing
students also register themselves as alumini.
32 Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association
We organize parent-teacher meetings to discuss general issues regarding students‟
performance and take constructive suggestions for progress of the institute.
In case of poor attendance of students, parents are informed.
We invited parents when students are felicitated for their academic and Para
academic achievements.
Parents of the students give donations for various charity activities conducted by
the institute.
33 Health services
Girl students are educated and provided guidance for malnutrition and
gynecological problems by expert panel of doctors or speakers.
There are various renowned hospitals in the surrounding areas for emergency
medical requirements.
108 facility is also available for all.
34. Performance in sports activities
The collaborative efforts of our faculty members and administrative staff motivate
the talents and capabilities of our students by providing them ample options to
choose from, sports being one of them. This year our students with their persistent
perseverance and unparalleled expertise have showcased amazing performances at
inter college, university, national and international levels.The details of
participation in various sports activities are as under:
SHOOTING
Harshal Patel of FY.B.Com won Gold and Bronze Medals in 50 mt. and 10 mt.
Rifle Shooting Competitions organized by Gujarat State Rifle Shooting Federation.
CRICKET
College Team reached to the Semi-final level and three players Dhimant Patel and
Ruchir Desai and Het Vyas represented College and were a member of Gujarat
University Team for All India West Zone.
BADMINTON Dhwanil Vimawala and Nikhil Shah both Stood 2
nd (Runners up) in Inter-College
Tournament in Doubles Badminton Championship organized by Gujarat
University.
Dhwanil Vimawala represented College and was selected for Inter University
Competition at National Level.
SWIMMING
A Student stood 3rd
in Backstroke Competition in Swimming but did not qualify.
CROSS COUNTRY
Hardik Sharma, Harin Bhayani and Sunil Chaudhary participated in 15 Kms. Cross
Country Competition.
FOOTBALL
College Team won the match against New L.J. Commerce College.
BEST PHYSIQUE
Irfan Sheikh stood first in Best Physique Competition in Inter-College Tournament
at Gujarat University level.
At Inter-Zonal University level, Irfan Sheikh represented Gujarat University at
National level.
TABLE TENNIS
Mr. Shikher Pattani reached National Level after winning at various Inter-College,
Inter-Zonal and Zonal Level Tournaments.
POWER LIFTING Saif stood Second in the Inter-College Power-Lifting Tournament.
It was noteworthy this year the college had participated in almost each and every
Sports Events organized by Gujarat University like Swimming, Chess (Riddhish
Vora and Heet), Volley ball, Basketball, Kabbadi, Boxing (Juned Khan), Weight
lifting, Football and Lawn Tennis (Sunil Chaudhari).
35. Incentives to outstanding sports persons
Sports equipment, ground, track suits, sports kit, trophy, facilitates their
participation by providing lunch, extra coaching in studies.
During the year college has extended following incentives to the students.
Relaxation in attendance is given to the sports students practicing or representing
the college at various competitions.
Sportswear (track suits) was provided to the students.
Group photos of teams winning at University Tournaments were given to all
participants as well as were displayed in college for motivating other students.
Refreshment, lunch etc. were provided during Competitions/ Tournaments.
Special Awards and Prizes were given to all those who represented the college at
University or any higher-level competitions and winners of Inter College
Tournaments as well as Individuals on the basis of their performance.
Personal and team equipment/playing material/protective material and first aid kit
were provided by the college.
Special academic coaching is also provided to the students participating in sports
who have missed on regular classes.
36. Student achievements and awards
During the year 2011-12, the students of the college have shown excellent
performance in academics, cultural and sports activities and won many awards,
shields, trophies, certificates and prizes.
The following achievements are noteworthy.
(i) Students of college fared well at Final University Examination held in March,
2012. The performance of our college was far superior to the overall result of the

37 Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit
The institute runs its own Placement and Career Guidance Cell. This cell provides
guidance and counselling to students on the issues raised by students. Usually,
students seek guidance for pursuing further education and different professional
courses. The institute every year organizes career guidance seminar wherein
experts from various fields are invited to acquaint students with latest career
options. The institute has formed star batch for bright students and remedial batch
for weak students to enhance their academic performance.
To inspire the students and to make an effort to promote interdisciplinary exchange
of ideas various seminars/ workshops/guest lectures were kept in the college.
Expert guest faculties were invited to deliver lectures to students and interact.

38. Placement services provided to students
Students are informed about the job opportunities available in the market. The
institute makes arrangement for the campus recruitment process wherein different
companies are invited for placement.
39. Development programmes for non-teaching staff
Gujarat Law Society organizes special workshop for improving the administrative
and computer skills of non-teaching staff. Moreover, some of Non-teaching staff
members usually accompany the group of students and faculty members for
educational visits or cultural visit organized by the college so that they get
exposure to new places, people and skills. Apart from this, regular training is given
to them by professionals in the matter of compliances like payment of income tax,
accounting, payment of professional tax, etc.
40 Good practices of the institution
The following are some of the healthy practices of the institute
Students are taught various environment related topics in General English syllabus
and in Foundation Course.
We celebrate world environment day, ozone day, Cycle Day, Tree Plantation etc.,
for environment consciousness. We organize Poster-Making and Painting
competition representing environmental issues to increase the awareness.
Under CWDC, we regularly organize trips for students to places full of natural
environment and try to give the first hand experience of living amidst nature and
develop a bond with nature.
Institute website is updated on regular basis.
CCTV monitoring system is installed in library halls, staff room, corridors and in
the campus so that proper supervision and check can be kept on campus activities.
Provision of mass messages to the students of all semester to regularly update them
with college exams, form filling dates and other important college activities.
ICT- Computer lab provided to the students for learning courses like tally and also
performs research based activities.
STAR BATCHES consisting of rank holders in the university and group of
students with good percentages are formed for each semester in which students are
guided how to sustain their ranking at the university examinations. Students are
given special counseling and coaching under this program. One ranker from each
semester is assigned to each faculty for enhancing their academic performance.
Remedial lectures are conducted for the weak students by appointing class
counselor for each semester and they are assigned the responsibility of providing
them necessary coaching.
College Publications-
(1)PRISM college magazine- a magazine for the students of the students and by the
students -which provide them with the platform of exhibiting their creative talents
and skill development.
(2) GLS Voice- monthly news letter by the institute and the management reflecting
the activities of the institute and other colleges of the campus.
The noteworthy encouragement provided by SMPIC is that it not only provides
huge platform to the students to exhibit their talents in various co curricular
activities of state and national level but when the team of college wins an award or
cash prize the same amount of prize is added by the college and given to the
winning participants of the college.
In JOSH event every year the winners were awarded with a cash prize of 1.5 lakhs
The students who participate in various intercollegiate or state or national level
competitions are refunded the registration fees of the same. The participation of the
student in various events is completely funded by the institute.
