PROCESSIONAL HYMN We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder African-American Spiritual

1 We are climbing Jacob’s ladder (x3), Soldiers of the cross. 2 Every round goes higher, higher (x3), Soldiers of the cross.

THE OPENING ACCLAMATIONS AND COLLECT FOR PURITY BCP 355

Celebrant Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

JUBILATE Psalm 100; sung by Cantor Hymnal S41

Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; * serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song.

Know this: The Lord himself is God; * he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise; * give thanks to him and call upon his Name.

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; * and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Let us pray.

COLLECT OF THE DAY

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PSALM 13 Usquequo, Domine; sung by Cantor

1 How long, O LORD? will you forget me for ever? * how long will you hide your face from me?

2 How long shall I have perplexity in my mind, and grief in my heart, day after day? * how long shall my enemy triumph over me?

3 Look upon me and answer me, O LORD my God; * give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;

4 Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed over him," * and my foes rejoice that I have fallen.

5 But I put my trust in your mercy; * my heart is joyful because of your saving help.

6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has dealt with me richly; * I will praise the Name of the Lord Most High.

THE EPISTLE Ephesians 6:10-18

Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

THE GOSPEL Matthew 10:40-42

Priest The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew. People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Form III, BCP 387

Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church; That we all may be one.

Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; That your Name may be glorified by all people.

We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments.

Grant the members of our Rector Search Committee your discernment and wisdom, That by your guidance we may call a faithful pastor to shepherd our community.

We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth.

Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight.

Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress.

Give to the departed eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them.

We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom.

Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. Silence. The People may add their own petitions.

To donate, please bring items to the Westover church office, on the Mesa side (facing Anderson HS), just to the right of the main entrance. Ring the doorbell and tell the receptionist you’re leaving a donation. Hours: 8-5 Mon-Thu, and 8-noon Fri. When you drop off your items, take a picture of yourself with your donations and send it to [email protected] for our Facebook page.
