Dear church,

When the countdown to Christmas Starts, many of us excitedly open the numbered doors of Advent calendars as we wait the celebration of Jesus’ birth. These fun calendars, based on a centuries-old German tradition, are among the most popular traditions of Christmas. Advent

comes from the Latin word adventus, which means “arrival.” This season anticipates the arrival of Christ! Advent not only looks back to the birth of Christ more than 2,000 years earlier, it also remembers Christ’s presence here with us now, and it anticipates His promised return.

This Christmas season should be a season of anticipation! Spend this week reading about the birth of our Savior in Luke 2. Take time to celebrate that Mary,

Joseph, the Shepherds, and even the Wiseman were ordinary individuals that took part in the greatest anticipation story ever! They each had their own fears and questions but they each took the next step in anticipation: Mary to have a son, Joseph to take Mary as his wife, the Shepherds to find the baby Jesus and the Wiseman as they journeyed to find a new King. What step of anticipation will you take this Christmas?
