Mr. Adiwarman Azwar Karim is an economic and Islamic Finance icon in Indonesia. He
received his formal education from Bogor Agricultural University and University of
Indonesia, where he attained his degree in Agricultural Economics and
MonetaryEconomics respectively, before completing his MBA with European University
in Belgium and Masters in Economics and Economic Policy in Boston University, USA.
He was previously in the management of Bank Muamalat Indonesia, and has produced 5
bestsellers on Islamic economy; which are Bank Islam: Analisis Fikih dan Keuangan; Ekonomi Mikro Islami; Ekonomi Makro Islami; Sejarah Pemikiran Ekonomi Islam; and
Ekonomi Islam: Suatu Kajian Ekonomi Kontemporer .
He also wrote more than 70 articles which have been featured in many forums, both on
the local and international stages, such as the 3rd, 4th and 5th International Islamic
Economic Conferences sponsored by Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the 76th
Annual International Western Economics Association Conference.
His previous appointments include Vice Chairman, Working Committee on Shariah
Capital Market, Dewan Syariah Nasional, Majelis Ulama Indonesia, member of the
International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM) Shariah Advisory Panel, member of Islamic
Finance Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and member of several
Shariah Supervisory Boards for Asuransi Great Eastern Syariah, Asuransi Prudential
Life, Bank Danamon Syariah, HSBC Amanah Syariah Indonesia, BNP Paribas Investment
