Today I would like to write about our Holy Rosary. “Tradition does hold that St. Dominic (d. 1221) devised the rosary as we know it. Moved by a vision of our Blessed Mother, he preached the use of the rosary in his missionary work among the Albigensians, who had denied the mystery of Christ.”
Some Scholars dispute whether or not St. Dominic was the originator of the Rosary but this is not important for us.
“The rosary is one of the most cherished prayers of our Catholic Church. Introduced by the Creed, the Our Father, three Hail Marys and the Doxology ("Glory Be"), and concluded with the Salve Regina, the rosary involves the recitation of five decades consisting of the Our Father, 10 Hail Marys and the Doxology. During this recitation, the individual meditates on the saving mysteries of our Lord's life and the faithful witness of our Blessed Mother.”
In praying the Rosary we have 4 sets of prayer; The Joyful mysteries, the sorrowful mysteries, and the Glori-ous mysteries. The Luminous mysteries were added in our time by St. John Paul II. It is a beautiful experience to meditate and pray the Rosary. It is also a wonderful way to worship and praise our Lord. The reason that I chose to write about the Rosary today is to remind all of us that before every Sunday Mass (Also Wednesday at Eucha-ristic Adoration) we recite the Rosary. We need more people to volunteer to lead us in praying it, and we need many more people to show up a half hour early (before Mass) to join in reciting the Rosary with us. Being unified as one in prayer is a very powerful statement/event.
Peace be with you always,
Fr. John W. Martin.
P.S -- We are to pray the rosary reverently, it is not a
race.
