Activity 1: Read the scenarios and complete the activity. Remember to always explain using the 3 questions (highlighted for you below).

I need to decide whether I need to call emergency services (000) so I ask myself:

• Is there a crime or accident happening right now? Yes No • Is someone badly injured? Yes No • Is somebody’s life in danger? Yes No

Do I need to call emergency services? Yes No

Which service do I need to ask for? Police Ambulance Fire Brigade

Emergency Services – Year 2

An emergency is a situation that needs helps immediately (straight away)! There are 3 emergency services: police, ambulance, fire brigade.

You can contact the 3 emergency services by calling 000.

To tell if it is an emergency, we can ask ourselves these 3 questions: 1. Is there a crime or accident happening right now?2. Is someone badly injured?3. Is somebody’s life in danger?

If the answer to any of these questions is ‘YES’, it IS an emergency situation! Call 000 immediately!

If it is not an emergency, you can call the station’s phone number or attend your local police station, hospital or fire station.

Scenario 1: A man suddenly collapses to the ground while jogging around the park.

Scenario 2: You decide to make your own breakfast. The toaster suddenly shoot sparks which set the curtains on fire.

This is/is not an emergency. I know this because…

Scenario 3: On the way home from school, you notice that someone has written rude words on your neighbour’s fence.

This is/is not an emergency. I know this because…

Scenario 4: You know the neighbours are away on holiday. It’s night time and you hear smashing glass coming from their house. You can see someone inside with a torch.

This is/is not an emergency. I know this because…

Scenario 5: You are walking home from your friend’s house and a stranger pulls up beside you in a car and asks if you want a lift.

This is/is not an emergency. I know this because…

How Far I ' l l Go- Au l i ’ I Crava lho

I've been staring at the edge of the water 'Long as I can remember, never really knowing why I wish I could be the perfect daughter But I come back to the water, no matter how hard I try Every turn I take, every trail I track Every path I make, every road leads back To the place I know, where I can not go, where I long to be

See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me And no one knows, how far it goes If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me One day I'll know, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go

I know everybody on this island, seems so happy on this island Everything is by design I know everybody on this island has a role on this island So maybe I can roll with mine I can lead with pride, I can make us strong I'll be satisfied if I play along But the voice inside sings a different song What is wrong with me?

See the light as it shines on the sea? It's blinding But no one knows, how deep it goes And it seems like it's calling out to me, so come find me And let me know, what's beyond that line, will I cross that line?

The line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me And no one knows, how far it goes If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me One day I'll know, how far I'll go

Length – centimetres

1 Cut out the ruler below. Finish labelling the cm markers. Find 5 things around the classroom that are shorter than the ruler and measure them.

Sometimes it is important for everyone to use exactly the same measuring unit. We can’t use hands or feet because they are all different. And not everyone in the world has the same counters or building blocks. To solve this problem we invented units that are the same EVERYWHERE. One of these is the centimetre. We can write this as cm.
