Today we welcome Hanworth Villa FC, to our

FA Cup Prelim, we extend a warm welcome to

the players, officials and supporters and we

hope that we all enjoy the game today.

First a big thank you to our 1st Team management for all the hard work they

have been engaged in, recruiting new players and arranging our friendly

games. I know we are ALL looking forward to the new season.

We have a number of new players and we wish them a warm welcome and

an exciting season. Unfortunately, it seems that some players in many of our

league clubs, including us, are transferring from club to club where a few £’s

means all. Never mind.

What a great friendly game we had against Brentford FC. With a gate of over

400. It was a great game and the banter and good humour and of course the

excellent player performance by our players was a pleasure to watch.

Ground improvements continue with a brilliant 20-foot Bi-Folding doors in

our hall, and now our 1st team changing room have lockers, handmade of

course.

And our Bedfont Eagles Tournament weekend

was a huge success, with we estimate of about

2000 people and players attending. A big thank

you for all the support and help we received.

Brief History of Hanworth Villa F.C.

Hanworth Villa, ‘The Villains,’ was formed in 1976. In the early

years the team struggled in Division one of the Hounslow & District League, scoring a goal

was usually celebrated with a public holiday. During a close season, following hard work

by Jimmy Connors, the team was completely rebuilt and this led to them finishing as

Division 1 Champions. The following Season saw the club start an incredible run in the

league, which finished 68 matches later, with the ’Villains’ winning the Hounslow Premier

League and the West Middlesex Divisions one and two championships. The success

continued with Hanworth being elected to the newly formed Middlesex County Football

League in 1984/1985.Following hard work by Dave Brown the club was granted a lease at

Rectory Meadow. At last the team had a permanent home and could set about

converting an existing pavilion into a clubhouse, which has become known as the ‘Ranch’.

With a permanent base, Villa were also able to concentrate on improving the level of

football, and in 2002/2003 a notable performance by the Saturday first team was to win

‘the treble’ of the Middlesex County Premier Cup, the Open Cup and the Middlesex

County League. After another Premier League title in 2004/2005, with a record number

of points, it was decided to move on and the club were elected to Division 1 of the

Combined Counties League in 2005/2006.It took a while to adapt to the new level of

football, but in the second season they managed to win the Challenge Cup. The following

season, 2007/2008, the team managed to successfully defend the Challenge Cup and also

narrowly miss out on the league title, finishing a credible second. However the lack of

facilities at the ‘Ranch’ prevented promotion to the Premier Division. The debut season

was as expected difficult with points being few and far between and it was not until the

second half of the campaign that the team came to terms with the standard of football

required. By the end of the season the team had collected enough points to finish 17th,

three points clear of relegation. The 2011/2012 season will live long in the memory of all

concerned at the club as being their most successful in national competition. In the FA

Cup the team, after victories over Shrivenham, Bedfont Sports, Wembley, Aveley and

Slough, lined up against AFC Totten for a place in the 1st Round proper, a rare

achievement for a team competing at national level 9. In a very close encounter AFC won

3-2.In 2013/2014 the team were successful in achieving a double, in winning both the

Middlesex Premier League Cup and the Southern Combination Cup.At the end of the

2015/16 season the club appointed former Queens Park Rangers and Fulham defender

Rufus Brevett as their new manager. Banbury United.

Last season Hanworth Villa finish in 3rd place in the league, the highest position obtained by the club in their history.

Burglary Prevention Advice

Dear Watch Member,

I am pleased to say that there have been no burglaries reported in Bedfont so far

in August

Here are a few tips to help keep your homes safe

• Get into a habit of completing a set procedure when you lock up you home - this ensures you don’t forget anything. Simply locking doors and windows can deter opportunistic burglars.

• If you are going away, try not to advertise this on social media until your return. • Leave radios and lights in your home on a timer to make the property

appear occupied. • Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your home or join a

Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. • Cancel any regular deliveries. • Sheds and garages are often vulnerable as they are not very secure and contain

tools with which the burglar can use to assist them to gain entry into a home. • Sheds and garages are often vulnerable as they are not very secure and contain

tools with which the burglar can use to assist them to gain entry into a home. • Gravel driveways and paths are ideal at preventing a silent approach • Keep bins stored away if possible - they provide a climbing aid for burglars and if

left out they can indicate if a home is unoccupied

Heavy opening day for Sports.

Bedfont 0 - Hanwell 4.

It’s been an indifferent summer for sports which has seen a number of players come and go coming into the 2019/20 season, however pre-season has been positive, and the management team have worked there socks off with our new look side. no fewer than 11 players made their sports debut (9 starting and 2 coming on as subs).

In patches we showed some real positive play, but this league is very unforgiving. Hanwell took there chances early on to take a 2 goal lead, one from the spot and a good header.

Half time sports fans were hoping we came out like we finished the 1st half, however Hanwell had other ideas and made it 3-0 on 47 Mins. The game then fizzled out until Hanwell added a 4th to run out 4-0 winners.

I’m sure its lessons learnt for sports as we go again Tuesday night against Chalfont who won their opening day fixture 4-0 away to Ashford Town so another tough test for Sports young side
