The Season of Advent begins on Sunday, December 1st. Our Worship anticipates the coming of Christ and the fulfillment of God’s Promises.

Special 7:00 pm Wednesday services will be held: December 4th - “O Antiphon”

December 11th – Advent Bell ConcertDecember 18th – Blue Christmas Service ; 24th Christmas Eve-

The month of November brings to mind Thanksgiving … sights and smells of turkey dinners, families gathered, and holiday treats. All that happens on the last week of November.

Have you noticed what happens at the beginning of the month? In thanks-giving we remember the saints who have gone before us: faithful parents and grandparents, teachers and mentors, brothers and sisters in Christ who have lived and shared the faith and now rest in the Lord. We remember and honor those who were among the faithful who helped to build the church in this place …a gift now given to us for stewardship and care. With thankful hearts we gather around the Lord’s Table of grace, in remembrance of Christ’s gift of forgiveness and life and in anticiption of the feast to come. With thankful hearts we sing our praise and lift our prayers to God who promises abundant life.

…And in the middle, the ordinary days of life demand our tasks and decisions. It is November that we head to the polls to cast our vote for local and sometimes national leaders. It is in November that we remember the veterans of wars fought in defense of democracy. - How can we live the ordinary days with Thanks-giving? Through acts of justice and mercy and commitment to Christ’s way of peace, we share our thanks and love toward God.

The mood of the times is tense this year, filled more with chaos, anxiety, fear and division than with hope and thanksgiving. As I read the stories of scripture from the past, it strikes me that none of this is new. Read the words of the prophets, the psalms of prayer and lament, and the cries of the people of God throughout history. What gave them hope was more than a dream, …more than pride or power in their own efforts. What gave them hope was the promised presence of God. Holidays and holy days are celebrated in faith and trust in God’s Grace, …the undeserved work of God’s love among us, for the sake of a world in need.

As a community of faith, we will gather around Word and Meal. We will gather too in the joy of fellowship, giving thanks to God as Young in Heart invites you to share in a meal of Thanksgiving on November 20th. We will gather in thanksgiving for the Word as we open scripture in small groups

throughout the month, inviting all to come to know the power of God’s love at work in the church today and throughout history. As family united in God’s love, we may find many and new ways to share our thanks to each other and to God.

“Give thanks to God, bless his name. For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures foreverand his fiathfulness to all generations.” - Ps. 100:4-5

Pastor Sue

FAMILY SUNDAY SCHOOL HOURNovember 3rd – All Saints

Sunday

Parents and grandparents are invited to join the children as we

find creative ways to give thanks to saints who have

passed on the faith.

The Advent FAMILY SUNDAY SCHOOL

HOUR will be on December 1st.. .

Our October get together was very interesting and educational, as we learned about Fire Fighters and EMT’s. 18 people attended our potluck (which was yummy) and listened to Kevin Harmes discuss his occupation in Northport Michigan. Fire fighters today have a heavy load to carry which we witnessed seeing his Fire Fighter suit. It was great having a good turnout for Kevin. I hope we can again in November as we meet for our Thanksgiving meal—November 20th at NOON. A signup sheet will be posted. Nancy Gunnell
