3.5.3 Logging In

The switch supports two configurable Ethernet ports (Eth0 and Eth2) and one port that is used for internal communication between two control processors (Eth1). The default IP addresses for these ports are:

Eth0 : 192.168.0.2 Eth2 : Unassigned

CALIENT requires that the IP address of Eth1 must not be changed at any time. This interface is used for internal communication between two control processors.

To access the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch, please use the default username (there is no password):

 Username: root

After the initial installation, the username and password can be changed at the user’s discretion. If the default password is changed, please keep a record of the new password.

If the user-changed password is lost or forgotten, it can only be reset by disrupting existing active connections and traffic. Please contact CALIENT Customer Service if you lose or forget your password.

If the IP address has been changed from the default or is otherwise unknown, it can be retrieved using the serial interface. To retrieve the current IP address, connect a serial cable to the serial port on the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch. Once connected and logged in, enter gxc-config-network --show to determine the IP address of the switch.

Alternatively, use the TL1 Agent through the console or a PC, using a standard terminal emulation program such as Putty. Please use the terminal emulation settings listed in Connecting Using the Serial Port. The default TL1 username and password is:

3.6 Fiber Connections

The final task in the installation procedure involves connecting fibers to the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch and establishing cross connects.

Connect fiber cables from equipment and outside plant fibers to the LC-UPC bulkhead connectors on the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch Fiber Interface. Connectors without circles on the port number labels are S320 inputs, and connectors with circles on the port number labels are S320 outputs (see Figure 8).

Figure 8: Circled and non-circled ports

As Figure 9 shows, because of the directionality of the S320 monitoring taps, the switch operates with light transmitted from the input fiber terminations to fiber terminations. User optical transmitters are connected to the inputs, and user optical receivers are connected to the outputs.

4 MANAGING THE S320 USING TL1

This section describes management of the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch via the TL1 command line interface using a Telnet or Serial port connection (see section 3.54 is using a serial port connection).

4.2 TL1 Agent Connection

4.1.1 Connecting Using Telnet

The TL1 Agent supports up to eight simultaneous sessions. To connect via Telnet, specify the node IP address, and the port socket that provides the communication path. The default IP address is 192.168.0.2, and the Gateway is 192.168.0.1. Two ports are used, 3082 and 3083, and each port represents a different mode of operation. Both modes are available via SSH. Table 3 describes the differences between the two modes of operation.

Port Socket Mode Description

3082 TL1-RAW With this mode, the user does not interact with the TL1 Agent, and does not receive the agent> prompts at the console. When provisioning in bulk, select this mode for executing automated scripts. The online help is not available with this mode.

3083 TL1-TELNET Typically, this mode is used for individual configuration or provisioning. This mode enables the user to interact with the TL1 Agent through the console, and receive prompts and messages. Online help is available with this mode.

Table 3: TL1-RAW mode vs. TL1-TELNET mode

4.1.2 Connecting to TL1 via SSH (Secure TELNET)

Use an SSH client like PuTTY. PuTTY is a free SSH and Telnet software application for Windows which can be used to make an SSH connection to your device. You can download the free software at http://www.putty.org/

3. Once the SSH Connection is open, you should see a terminal prompt asking for your username:

login: tl1user

The SSH login username for the S320 switch is: tl1user.

4. You are now logged into your switch with SSH. You should see output like this:

You can begin typing commands at the prompt.

agent>

At this point, you can login to the switch using the TL1 command: ACT-USER.

The default TL1 username is: admin. The default TL1 password is: pxc***.

For more information on using TL1, refer to the S320 TL1 Command Reference Guide".
