NOTES FROM PAUL
This weekend we are launching our CSA (Catholic Services Appeal) campaign in our parish. We are a few weeks
behind the rest of the Archdiocese, so those of you who have donated in the past have most likely already received
something in the mail. To be honest, I know many of you don't like CSA, and I understand your concerns. Yet
helping, even a little, with our CSA is the number one way that you can help St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy. I know
may people hold off to donate at Christmas since by tradition, all that money stays at our parish, but the part they
don't tell you is that that windfall in December is one of the things that causes our CSA obligation to go up every
year. In years that we don't meet that obligation we have to use general collection money to make up the
difference. In years that we get more money than our obligation (like last year) that extra money is sent back to
the parish.
I know it often feels like when you pay any kind of "tax," the money just disappears, but as someone who is
married to a Catholic school teacher, and is taking classes at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, I can say it helps
people in our parish. It also helps with Faith Formation, Christian Service, and many other programs around the
Archdiocese. If you can help, thank you. If you can't, that is ok too, but at least offer a prayer for the good work of
the Catholic Church in our area.
God bless you.

Queen’s Quotes from Religious Formation
Greetings and Salutations,
I will be out of the office October 12th and 13th. I am having a small surgical procedure on my right eye. Prayers
welcome. This week I write about the Gift of Peace. In your prayer time this week, I encourage all to read John
14: 25-27. After the read reflect on this question…What diminishes my own sense of peacefulness?
THE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS
Time for a few laughs…
What kind of shoes do all spies wear? Sneakers.
What makes music on your head? A head band.
What did the bad sheep want to do? Wool the world.
Lol’s!!!!
Have a great week everyone!
Peace be with you,
Sabrina Queen

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy
intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto
thee O Virgin of virgins, our Mother. To thee do we come. Before thee
we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer us. Amen.
ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I
love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I
cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there
and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from
you. Amen.

I would like to express my thanks
and deep appreciation to all who
have sent me good wishes, cards
and gifts as I prepare to move to my
new assignment at Sts. Simon and
Jude Parish in Westland. I truly
appreciate all the heart-warming
words of appreciation for my service
and ministry here at St. Mary,
Cause of Our Joy during my six
years in residence here.
It’s been a pleasure to serve in
this parish during that time, and
I’ve experienced the many changes
that have taken place here with you
through those years. I’m grateful to
have know Fr. Shafique and his
generous hospitality as well as the
pastors who served here previously.
I will not be too far away for
many of you to come and visit
occasionally at my new assignment,
and I still may be a guest here in
the future.
God bless all of you and this
wonderful community of faith.

Fiscal year 20192020 ended with offertory contributions under budget by ($72,725). A contributing factor in this
reduction was due to the suspension of masses caused by pandemic. The Christmas offertory and the CSA overages
totaled $89,091 ending the year with a net surplus of $18,102. Administrative costs totaled 65% of the overall operating
costs. Christian Service and Evangelization programs were a mere 1% of operating costs. Maintenance, building repairs
and utilities costs came in under budget due to contributions made to the building fund.
The 20202021 budget has been completed and approved by the Archdiocese of Detroit. Unfortunately cuts had to be
made in this budget to keep the parish sustainable. The parish is operating on target with the goals set in the current
budget.
