BASIC CONCEPTS
Column - When strut is vertical it is known as column-The cross sectional dimension of column are large--Normally, column carry heavy compressive load-- column are used in concrete and steel building
Buckling load or crippling load or critical load:The minimum axial load at which the column tends to have lateral displacement & buckle is called the buckling, crippling or critical load.
StrutA structural member whose lateral dimensions are small as compared to its length and subjected to compressive force is known as strutA strut may be vertical, horizontal or inclinedThe cross sectional dimensions of strut are smallNormally strut carry smaller compressive loadsIt is used in roof truss and bridge truss
Case1.Column hinged at Both Ends
Case2.Column hinged at Both Ends
Case3.Column fixed at both ends
Case3.Column fixed at one end and hinged at the other
Case4.Column fixed at one end and free at the other
If a dice is thrown what is the probability of an even number or a “3”
Since three is not an even number (!) P(Even or “3”) = P(Even) + P(3)
= 3/6 + 1/6 = 4/6
