Less than 7 hours from the UK, the diverse Province of Québec is closer than you may think. Explore the cobbled streets of Vieux Montréal, enjoy the café culture and fantastic shopping before setting off on your adventure. Head north to St Michel des Saints and Auberge du Lac Taureau, where hiking, kayaking and black bear observation are available, then continue on to Sacacomie Lodge, with its Geos Spa and lakeshore beach. Optional guided activities include riding, hiking, helicopter/seaplane flights, black bear viewing and First Nations cultural visits.

Travel east to UNESCO World Heritage site Québec City, the only walled city in North America with a vibrant mix of French and English cultures. Perhaps visit the historic Plains of Abraham and Petit Champlain for local arts and crafts. Head south of the St Lawrence to the Eastern Townships through beautiful rural scenery and pretty villages to Sherbrooke with its many parks and gardens. This tour ends with the pleasant drive back to Montréal for your flight home.

Chemin du Roy follows the St Lawrence River from Montréal, passing through pretty villages and hamlets hugging the shore nearly all the way to Québec City. After sampling life in the cities continue to Tadoussac, famous for whale watching cruises. From here take a ferry across the St Lawrence River to Trois Pistoles, and onward along the southern shore. Québec is dotted with National Parks and Wildlife Refuges, including the Gaspésie National Park where Gite du Mont Albert, a chalet style property offers hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities. Return to the coast and the far eastern point of the Gaspé Peninsula at Percé, take a boat tour around the Percé Rock and watch for whales.

Birdwatchers will enjoy Carleton-sur-Mer, where a sandbar attracts great blue herons and terns, water sports are also available. View local architecture in Rivière-du-Loup, visit the various museums and restored manor house before returning to Québec City for last minute shopping. Drive to Montréal in time for your return flight.
