Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!

Happy Fourth of July weekend! Thanks for joining the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time. We are blessed through your

prayerful participation. May the Word proclaimed enlighten your mind and the Bread of Life nurture your faith. Ezekiel, in today’s First Reading, is called by God. The Lord is sending Ezekiel to the Israelites. The Israelites are described as “rebels who have rebelled against me...they and their ancestors have revolted against me.” The Lord continues to paint a picture of the Israelites Ezekiel is being sent to, saying, “Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you.” Don’t you just love that description? Do you know anyone “hard of face and obstinate of heart?” Ezekiel has a difficult task as God’s prophet to the Israelites. Jesus, in today’s Gospel, faces similar people in his native place. His neighbors, gathered in the synagogue, resist Jesus’ teaching. We are told, “They took offense at him.” Jesus is “amazed at their lack of faith.” God’s prophet and Jesus met resistance! People refused to believe them! We, at times, mirror a similar reaction to Jesus and His teaching. We, too, can be “hard of face and obstinate of heart.” We, too, can resist Jesus and His Gospel, especially when they call for changes in our lives. Today’s Readings invite us to examine ourselves. How do we respond to the life of Jesus and His call to be another Christ? Do some of the teachings of Jesus cause me to become “hard of face” or “obstinate of heart?” Peace be with you! God bless,

Fr. McKee

There is something about the changed pace of our lives during the summer months that makes it a little easier to dedicate time to our spiritual growth. Here is another suggestion to help you focus on your relationship with God:

2. TEND YOUR GARDEN In Creating Eden: The Garden as a Healthy Space, Marilyn Barrett writes: "Although weeding, cutting back, and transplanting are activities that may seem repetitive and never-ending, when seen as a necessary and integral part of the overall unfolding of the garden scheme, they become purposeful rather than boring. In fact, what may appear on the surface to be tedious physical work may, in the actual doing, be spiritually liberating. In taking time to contemplate the small — in observing the details of our gardens — we can experience life on a manageable scale." Get in touch with the spiritually liberating disciplines of attention, repetition, and humility while working in your garden. Experience your time there as a spiritual workshop.

Allow God to be your workshop instructor and spiritually liberate you.

WHAT DRAWS PEOPLE INTO THE CATHOLIC FAITH?

While there are many different circumstances that lead a person in the direction of Catholicism, the simple answer is, “Because God has called them.” Most often, God calls to us through the people closest to us, through our families and friends. Most who have entered the Church have been influenced by a Catholic

spouse, fiancé, or close friend. For many of these people, a desire to raise their children in the knowledge of God spurred them to action. What

is this, if not the action of the Holy Spirit? SO ...Do you know someone who may

wish to become Catholic? *OR ... Are you a baptized Catholic but

Have never been Confirmed or received First Eucharist?
