In fact, the Church encourages preaching and catechesis on eschatology (theology of the end) as essential during this time of year. Advent also draws us toward certain key players who were prepared and chosen by God to make possible the Incarnation of His Son Jesus Christ. Sacred Heart Catholic Church First Sunday of Advent ~ December 1, 2019

Reflection from the Pastor:

Advent is the beginning of the Liturgical Year. Despite what some

people have been taught over the years, it is not a penitential season like

Lent (even though they are technically the same color). Advent is a time of

preparation, hope, and anticipation.

The coming of the Eternal Son of God is celebrated in three ways:

past, present, and future. (Past) Jesus came for us in our flesh through the

Incarnation. (Present) He comes to us in the Church and through grace.

(Future) He will come at the end of time to judge the living and the dead.

During this season we also reflect on the last things: death,

judgement, heaven, and hell. In fact, the Church encourages preaching and

catechesis on eschatology (theology of the end) as essential during this time

of year.

Advent also draws us toward certain key players

who were prepared and chosen by God to make possible the

Incarnation of His Son Jesus Christ.

Our eyes turn toward Mary, John the Baptist, Joseph,

Elizabeth and Zechariah. We hear a lot from the prophet

Isaiah who is always pointing to the coming of the

Anointed One.

The Fiat Ministries Discernment Retreat

Fiat Ministries cultivates a culture of discernment for

young women by inspiring them to say yes to the vocation

that God is calling them to. The Fiat Discernment Retreat is

an opportunity for young women to ask questions, pray,

listen, and open their hearts to the Lord’s will. Throughout

this weekend of discernment, participants will receive

wisdom through prayer, presentations by religious sisters,

recreation, and fellowship. Single women, age 18-30 who

are seeking to do God's will, are invited to attend the

upcoming Fiat Discernment Retreat on December 20-22,

2019, at the Spiritual Life Center. The cost of the retreat is

$25 which includes meals, lodging, and materials. If you

are interested in attending or would like more information

please contact Emily Savage

at [email protected]. Registration is now open

online at Fiatministries.org.

board at the back of the church, wrap the new

gift, attach the gift tag from the tree onto the

outside of the package, and leave the gifts

at the church office. You may also leave

gifts inside the church entrance during weekend

Masses. All gifts must be delivered to the office by

Tuesday, December 17th. Please call Kim Ford at 660-2697 if you need to drop them off after church office
