SCRIPTURE READING REFLECTION The historic context of today’s first reading is that God’s people were about to be attacked by a pagan army which from a human only perspective, was so powerful, that it seemed inevitable that the pagans would be successful. The prophet Isaiah was urging the king to have faith and resist, because ultimately God was with him (Emanuel). De facto, the king surrendered without a fight, and it was disastrous for God’s people. On the other hand, in today’s Gospel we have the story of St. Joseph, who had so much faith that when he perceived that God was miraculously working in Mary, his espoused wife, felt that he was unworthy to be part of the miracle. He had to be reassured by the angel to hang in there, as it were, because God was with him (Emanuel). As we prepare to celebrate God’s presence among us, do we pray for the fortitude – lacking in King Ahaz – to face adversity, and the humility of St. Joseph to accept that God has tasks for each of us to accomplish, and will give us the grace to do so. God does not accept buck passing in this life, because He is always with us! Emmanuel. As St. Paul would say: “To bring about the obedience of faith.”
On behalf of Fr. Vaughan, myself and the entire parish and school staff, we wish you a joyful Christmas season
and a Blessed and Healthy New Year. Fr. Yanas
A note from Father Vaughan… I am very thankful to everyone who sent me birthday
cards with messages, best wishes, prayers, or gifts
on my 94th birthday, the Feast Day of Our Blessed
Mother Mary’s Immaculate Conception. I am
grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity. I
wish that I could write to each of you personally, but
my right hand is not cooperating and I am not able
to write with it. Please accept this general note of
thanks and I will include each of you in my daily
rosary to Mary, that she may take your special
intentions to our Holy God.
Your kindness is for me a blessing from God and
with my thanks comes a prayer that in giving, you
too, have been richly blessed.
Father James Vaughan

For those who are not aware, Father Yanas, along with the
members of the Liturgy and Finance Committees are pleased to
tell you that as of this year, all bequests made in memory of a
relative or friend will be placed in the Memorial Fund Account

have stated, this project is long overdue and is now a top priority.
For your convenience, Memorial Fund Envelopes are available on
the bulletin table, or at the rectory, with the program at a funeral,
