SACRED HEART COLLEGE: THE MAKING OF MARIST MEN The Sacred Heart College Development Foundation is a Registered Charitable Trust whose purpose is to promote the interests of Sacred Heart College including the provision of support for the benefit and welfare of the College and/or for the education and learning at the College and/or for the support of the pupils and staff at the College. It also is the catalyst for the funding of major capital investments as well as the ongoing educational and cultural needs of the College. The Development Office works closely with the Proprietor (the NZ Marist Brothers Trust Board), the College Board of Trustees, the Old Boys’ Association, Friends of Sacred Heart College, PTA and College staff. Through the Annual Giving and Bequest programmes, the Foundation provides student scholarships, teacher support as well as funding for College buildings and amenities. Construction projects funded by the Foundation since 1994 include: The Chapel Gymnasium Astro-turfing of Tennis Courts Dining Hall Aquatic Centre Science and Technology Facility Administration Facility Centenary Square Nine-classroom Pompallier block for Years 7 & 8 Projects for the future include a 1500-seat Auditorium, Performing Arts Centre and Library/Research Centre. These projects have been funded by donations from parents, Old Boys, Friends of the College, grants from Trusts, and loans serviced by the Financial Contribution. The Financial Contribution provides a constant income stream and means that new parents inherit these outstanding facilities as well as the ongoing responsibility to service the accompanying debt. The Foundation is committed to supporting these capital-intensive initiatives and expects that parents will provide ongoing financial support to the best of their ability. DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

excellent support and guidance systems are in place to help students reach their full potential. all students are members of a homeroom class. Homeroom teachers will often be the first to identify a student who is having difficulties. Parents or guardians with concerns about a student should contact his homeroom teacher, or the year-level dean.

the director of Pastoral care and Welfare coordinates the work of the homeroom teachers, the year-level deans, the guidance counsellor, the learning Support department, the careers and transition department and the resource teacher of learning and Behaviour (rtlB).

these staff members meet weekly to discuss the pastoral and academic needs of students from Years 7 to 13. the purpose of these meetings is to:

• Providesolutionsforstudentswithlearningdifficultiesandbehaviouralissues;thisincludesutilisingoutsideagencies

YEARS 7-8Financial Contributions $2,174 (gSt exempt) per annum or $543.50 per term.

Attendance Dues $370 per annum (inc. gSt) or $92.50 per term.

YEARS 9-13Financial Contributions $2,174 (gSt exempt) per annum or $543.50 per term.

Attendance Dues $726 per annum (inc. gSt) or $181.50 per term.

attendance dues are approved by the Minister of education under Section 36 of the Private Schools conditional integration act 1975. Payment of attendance dues is a legal requirement and condition of enrolment at an integrated school.

in term four each student is invoiced $45 for the School Magazine and each family $12 for the School calendar.

confirmation of your enrolment will follow payment of term one financial contributions and attendance dues for the following year.

an invoice will be issued every term. all financial contributions and attendance dues are payable a term in advance. the Board of trustees reviews financial contributions annually.

the auckland common fund sets the attendance dues annually on behalf of the Proprietor. options for payment are by cash, cheque or automatic debit fortnightly or monthly. credit card, eftpos, and internet banking facilities are available.

co-curricular activities and team participation provide opportunities for students to develop a sense of belonging, to support and encourage others, to learn about leadership, create group spirit and resolve conflict. they begin to understand how to interact constructively with others while working towards a common goal. they also learn and perfect their own individual skills and talents. at Sacred Heart college, all students are strongly encouraged to participate in the different groups and activities available. these include:

Boarding is an integral part of life at Sacred Heart college. the Boarding Hostel located on site at the college caters for 170 students from Years 9 to 13. Some return home each weekend, while others board full-time.

FACILITIESYears 9 and 10 students share partitioned dormitories and have supervised study. Year 11 students have a study desk in their cubicle while Years 12 and 13 have individual rooms.

all students have access to common rooms with television. the chapel, sports fields, aquatic centre and gymnasium are also available.

STUDYYears 9 and 10 boarders are required to study for a minimum of one and a half hours every night during the week, and Years 11 – 13 for a minimum of two and a half hours. Study is supervised by teachers and university students who can help students with any difficulties. Boarders have access to the library and computer rooms.

SPORTBoarders have access to the full range of sports offered at the college and enjoy the advantage of not having to travel home on completion of sports practices after school.

SPIRITUALITYBoarders gather for prayer in the morning and in the evening in the common room or the chapel, and Mass is celebrated each weekend on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

FRIENDSHIPthe bonds of friendship formed during boarding days often last throughout life. teenage boys enjoy the company of a larger group of their own age, and also get to develop future relationships with others, younger and older than them.

FEESthe Sacred Heart college Hostel Board sets the fees for boarding. the boarding fees are separate from day-school contributions. the boarding fee is reviewed by the Hostel Board in august each year and is subject to change at that time. fees must be paid prior to boarding beginning each term. for international Students, the boarding fees are payable one year in advance.

FULL BOARDING FEE$9,912 inc. gSt per annum, $2,478 inc. gSt per term

WEEKLY BOARDING FEE$8,920 inc. gSt per annum, $2,230 inc. gSt per term

Please note that these fees are for the 2011 year and are likely to be increased for 2012.

FAMILY DISCOUNTa discount of 20% of the cost of boarding for one boarder is offered to families who have three sons concurrently in the Hostel.
