God’s Word Today... Do you find yourself

worrying about the future? It is common to be filled with concern about school, career, health, finances. We all fret about our relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. If you are troubled by some-one or something today, you will find particular com-fort and relief in the Gospel. Jesus proclaims loudly and clearly, “Do not worry about your life.” He in-structs us to be free from worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear. He reminds us to be free of concern about our bodies and our health. You may say, “How can I stop worrying? I need proof instead of words!” Jesus points to the birds in the sky and reminds us that God provides all living things with abundance. Jesus teaches us that God knows everything we need and that God will provide much more for us. Reflexiones de Mayordomía ~ 8º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, 2º de marzo de 2014: Para que nos pre-

ocupemos menos de nuestra apariencia mundana y pasemos más tiempo construyendo nuestra relación con Dios. "Nadie puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreci-ará a uno y amará al otro, o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a la vez a Dios y a mammon (las riquezas)." Mateo 6:24 ¿Tiene usted otros "dioses" en su vida (el trabajo, el dinero, su ego, sus pos-esiones)? ¿Las pone antes que al Señor? Un estilo de vida como servidor significa poner a Dios primero, ¡en todas las cosas! Significa vivir el espíritu de servicio 7 días a la semana, 24 horas al día y no tan solo cuando vamos a la iglesia o cuando participamos en la parroquia de la igle-sia. Significa re-priorizar y poner a Dios primero.

Lenten Guidelines Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Below are the guidelines of Lenten observance for the faithful in the Archdiocese of Galveston ~Houston. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of

Fast and Abstinence. Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. As outlined by the U.S. Conference of Catholic

Bishops on Lenten Fasting and Abstinence, “fasting is obligatory for all who have com-pleted their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a per-son to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Ab-stinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year.

If possible, the fast on Good Friday is contin-ued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the ‘paschal fast’ to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.

Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of com-plete abstinence (from meat) for all who com-pleted their 14th year.

Lent is a penitential season and as such religious practice such as daily Mass, reception of the Sacrament of Penance, the devotion of the Stations of the Cross, works of charity and justice, and acts of self-denial are highly encouraged.

FAQ’s of Lent and Lenten Practices Q: I understand that all the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat, but what is classi-fied as meat? A: Abstinence laws consider that meat comes only from animals such as chickens, cows, sheep or pigs. Birds are also considered meat. Abstinence does not include meat juices and liquids made from meat—chicken broth, soups, gravies, sauces, seasonings or condi-ments. Such foods as gelatin, butter, cheese and eggs are not forbidden. Salt or freshwater fish, amphibians, and shellfish are permitted.

Stewardship Reflections ~ 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time, March 2, 2014 : That we may worry less about our worldly appear-

ance and instead spend more time building up our rela-tionship with God. “No one can serve two masters; for ei-ther he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (material wealth).” Matthew 6:24 Do you have other “gods” in your life (job, money, power, ego, possessions)? Do you put them before the Lord? A stewardship lifestyle means putting God first, in all things! It means living stewardship 7 days a weeks, 24 hours a day and not just the time that I go to Church or participate in my parish ministry. It means re-prioritizing and putting God first.

Summary: Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church is seeking a qualified candidate for a part-time maintenance per-son. The hours are flexible and include some week-end work as business requires. The maintenance per-son will perform general maintenance and repairs to the buildings and grounds including (but not limited to) minor carpentry, painting, and HVAC. The maintenance person should be able to perform out-door work, climb a ladder, lift up to 50 pounds, and have a valid Texas Driver’s License. Experience: Candidate must have a minimum of two years maintenance work experience, ability to use tools, and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. On Easter Sunday, at 4:30 AM, there will be a re-enactment of the mee ng of the Risen Christ with the Virgin Mary in mourning, that will take place in front of the Church. Baptism Preparation Information Parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation

class; Godparents are greatly encouraged but not required to attend.

The parish office must have a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate no later than the week before the Baptism.

Upon completion of the Baptism class, you must call the parish secretary to schedule your child’s Bap-tism.

Baptisms in English will be celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 2:30 pm and in Spanish on the 4th Sunday of the month following the

Mission Outreach Ministry invites you and asks you to consider going on a mission trip to Guatemala
