A Word from Fr. Andrew

Dear Parishioners and Friends, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! As we gather to celebrate the Fourth of July this week we pray that we will never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy simply by our birthright. To live in the United States of America is a tremendous gift. Regardless of political affiliation or our differing beliefs, we have been blessed with freedoms that so many people throughout the world do not enjoy or can never even dream of. Please do not take any of them for granted. And as we whisper a prayer of thanksgiving to God for all those who made this possible, let’s not forget all those who still come to this country looking for a better way of life. We pray to God and ask him to help us to be good stewards of those freedoms. We are uniquely qualified to share them with others. And yet our policies have to be realistic and just. We ask God, the Author of all Freedom, to guide all our legislators so that they may put the best interests of their constituents first while being fair, just, and compassionate toward those who are still in need of a better way of life. In our short history, our country has come so far. We remain the greatest nation on earth! May we always be a beacon for those in need as we ask God to help us remain open to those willing to work at providing for themselves and for their families, while adhering to the laws governing our land. Love, Fr. Andrew

FIRST FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Please be advised, we will not hold First Friday Adoration for the months of July and August. We will resume Eucharistic Adoration on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with Reposition at Noon. Thank you.

MAINTENANCE POSITION We are beginning the search for a full-time maintenance person for our parish. The duties are extensive, and the hours are varied. Alan Angelini will continue to carry out his duties notably well, as he has, but it is becoming evi-dent that we need someone on staff to fill the extensive hours and duties that one part-time person cannot humanly handle alone. This is particularly true in what is fast becoming an even more vibrant and growing parish. It is not an easy job, as it requires a specific skill set and a personality compatible with the giftedness of a church minister. Fr. Andrew, with the help of the Building and Grounds Committee, is in the process of drawing up a detailed job description. Please keep this endeavor in your prayers and, if you are aware of anyone who may be interested in discussing such a position, please contact Fr. Andrew directly.

PRAYER OF MYCHAL F. JUDGE, OFM Lord, take me where You want me to go. Let me meet who you want me to meet. Tell me what you want me to say, and Keep me out of Your way. Amen.

PETER’S PENCE—THANK YOU! Peter’s Pence offering for June 24, 2018 was $868.00. The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, includ-ing victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. The collection is an opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Thank you for your generosity!

UPDATE:SUMMER CASH RAFFLE The last 493 envelopes were mailed out last week. Everyone on our parish mailing list should receive the mailing soon. Hopefully you will realize what an important part this raffle plays in

providing for the future viability of programs, staff, and updates to our physical plant. All this lends itself to ensuring that Sacred Heart of Jesus will remain a vibrant parish. If anyone would like to sell additional tickets, please contact the parish office. Those who feel unable to afford the $100 ticket are encouraged to ask other family members or friends to chip in together—and of course share any winnings that may result. The drawing for the Cash Raffle is set for September 8, 2018. This summer we focus our major improvement fundraising on completing the church soffitt work and covering the areas with heavy enameled aluminum. We also want to start saving up for some extensive work that will be needed in our parking areas in the future. The drawing for the Cash Raffle is set for September 8, 2018.

MISSION CO-OP APPEAL This weekend, June 30/July 1, Fr. Paul Ngaoni from the diocese of Imphal, India will be our guest . We ask our parishioners to be as generous as possible. The mission diocese of Imphal in Northeast India is home to 35 tribes of Mongolian origin. The first Catholic baptism was recorded in 1952. The Catholic population has grown to 100,000 now. The diocese has 45 parishes and 5 Mission Centers, with 160 priests including 82 indigenous tribal priests. The growth of the Church has always been accompanied by various challenges and persecutions during the past decades. Between 1990-2001, six of our young and dynamic missionaries were killed for witnessing the Gospel. Besides direct evangelization, the Church is actively involved in the everyday life of the people through other forms of apostolate like education, health care, self-help programs, rehabilitation of the sick, drug addicts and the orphans. Much remains to be done for this interior and underdeveloped region through your participation and generous support. In spite of the many challenges, missionary efforts are yielding an increase in vocations to priesthood and religious life. The proceeds of the 2018 Mission Appeal will be used for training 25 Touring Catechists for the parishes. Your generous support and prayers will be of great help for the evangelization work in the Diocese of Imphal that began 70 years ago. This weekend we welcome Fr. Paul Ngaoni as we make our annual mission appeal. There will be a special second collection taken up at all masses to assist Fr. Paul in fulfilling the missionary activity of our Church Universal. Please be generous as you possibly can. Thank you.
