Saint Andrew, was an apostle of Jesus
according to the New Testament. He is
the brother of Saint Peter. He is re-
ferred to in the Orthodox tradition as
the First-Called.

Bible Study Beginning on October 16th the Wednesday night Bible Study Group will be reading and discussing the
book, Letter to A Suffering Church, by Bishop Robert Barron. For the next several Wednesday nights,
starting at 6:30p.m. all are welcome. Copies of the book are available with us in the Church Hall.
Bulletin Column for the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
From the beginning of His ministry, Jesus proclaimed that the “Kingdom of heaven is at hand…” A kingdom needs a king. When
we think of kingdoms and kings, it doesn’t conjure up pleasant thoughts or memories, as a rule. We think of dictators, cruel mon-
archs, rulers who had no regard for anyone but themselves. The Kingdom of heaven and heaven’s king are very different. This is
no ordinary kingdom and no ordinary king. The Kingdom of heaven is a kingdom of love and peace. It is a kingdom of mutual
caring. Jesus brought about his kingdom through works of mercy and he is asking us to do the same. By imitating Christ and his
works of mercy we are really imitating the reciprocity that exists between the Father and the Son. Seen in this light we see that a
real kingdom is really about relationship rather than power and subjugation.

We are blessed to have three sacred spaces with candles at which we can light a candle for our
prayers and special intentions.
These candles can be used for weekly visits, as many of you already do. There is also the pos-
sibility to reserve a candle for a month(s) or a year. Some of the intentions for which a num-
ber of parishioners have reserved candles:

Condolence for friends or family
Anniversary of Marriage
Birthday
Automatically with the condolences, we send a letter to notify the grieving family of the candle
lit in our church for their loved one. We can also send a letter when requested for the others.
