SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OH Thursday, November 1, is the Feast of All Saints. This is a HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION, which means that we are to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass under the pain of mortal sin. To deliberately miss Mass on a Holy Day of Obligation is a matter for Confession. One may not receive the Eucharist until one has received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This has always been a teaching of the Church that has never been changed, except in the minds of some people, including some priests as well. Masses will be at 5 PM for the vigil on Wednesday, October 31 and 9:30 AM and 7 PM on November 1. The Feast of All Saints provides the opportunity to honor all those who have gone before us in faith and now are enjoying eternal life and happiness in God’s heavenly kingdom. We realize there are more saints in heaven than we may know or have been officially canonized by the Church. All the saints give us a wonderful example of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. The saints are those who hear the word of God and put it into practice. In Matthew 24, Jesus tells us that we will be judged at the end of life based on His command to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and visit the sick and imprisoned, because when we do these things for any one, we do them for Jesus Himself. For this, He will welcome us into the Father’s House where He has prepared a place for us. On Friday, November 2, we celebrate the Feast of All Souls or Poor Souls. On this day, we especially pray for those who have died and have not yet reached the heavenly kingdom. We pray for the poor souls in purgatory. Purgatory is that state of being in which we make up for our sins on earth and thereby complete the journey to God our Creator. Our prayers are very important to the poor souls because they cannot help themselves. The best prayer that we can offer for the poor souls is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. That is why it is so important to have Masses said for the dead. We will have our annual Memorial Mass for those who have died this past year on November 2 at 7 PM in the church. All are invited to attend this Mass, especially those who have lost loved ones this past year. Today, Sunday, we will have the solemn closing of our Solemn Eucharistic Weekend. Starting at 4:00 p.m., the children preparing for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation, as well as those who made their First Holy Communion last year, will gather in the church to pray the Rosary. At 4:30 p.m., we will pray Evening Prayer with a Procession of the Blessed Sacrament through the church in which the children will participate. There will be several visiting priests, and the homily during Evening Prayer will be given by Fr. Richard Samide, a newly ordained priest and Parochial Vicar at St. Mary Parish in Wooster. Today is Priesthood Sunday. Please pray for all priests and those preparing for and discerning the priesthood. This weekend, we welcome Michael Garvin, a Seminarian, who will share his vocation story with us at all the Masses. FLIX PICK: "Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer" (GVN) is a powerful dramatization of the Philadelphia police investigation and state prosecution that finally ended the infamous, decades-long career of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. As proven in the procedure of the title, Gosnell, besides legally slaughtering the unborn, frequently perpetrated infanticide and endangered his adult clients with filthy conditions. As it follows the work of police detective James Wood (Dean Cain) and assistant district attorney Alexis "Lexy" McGuire (Sarah Jane Morris), the film effectively indicts not only Gosnell himself -- played here by Earl Billings -- but the political bias of officials who shielded and enabled him. In a similar vein, it should be noted that, rather than being backed by anyone in Hollywood, the movie itself had to be financed via crowdfunding. Well-written and acted, with touches of humor thrown in to relieve the grim subject matter, "Gosnell" gets its point across more easily than a documentary might. Some parents, moreover, may see in this sobering and informative movie too good an opportunity for reinforcing pro- life values in older teens to let the relatively few objectionable elements it includes stand in the way. By John Mulderig, Catholic News Service. I saw this movie recently and I was very impressed with the message it conveys and the way it is conveyed. It does not drive the anti-abortion message, but presents a case that enables the viewer to come to the conclusion of how very harmful the availability of abortion is on the unborn child, women, and society as a whole. No one benefits from abortion in any way and so it needs to be made illegal and not considered a right erroneously guaranteed by our constitution. Some people will say that a legal abortion stance protects women from the so-called “back alley” abortions of years before Roe vs. Wade. If what is depicted in this movie was happening in Philadelphia all those years, I am sure it goes on in other cities in this country. We need to open our eyes to the evil of abortion and make more efforts to protect human life from the moment of conception to natural death. I believe the Altar and Rosary Vendor and Craft Fair was a very successful event last weekend. There were many vendors represented with a variety of very beautiful and useful crafts, as well as a lot of great food. Thank you to all the vendors and those who came to buy the various crafts. I am very grateful to the Altar and Rosary Society for all they do for our parish community. God bless all of you for your hard work and devotion.

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time They came to Jericho next, and as he was leaving that place with his disciples and a sizable crowd, there was a blind beggar Bartimaeus (“son of Timaeus”) sitting by the roadside. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to call out, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” Many people were scolding him to make him keep quiet, but he shouted all the louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!” Then Jesus stopped and said, “Call him over.” So they called the blind man over, telling him as they did so, “You have nothing to fear from him! Get up! He is calling you!” He threw aside his cloak, jumped up and came to Jesus. Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Rabboni,” the blind man said, “I want to see.” Jesus said in reply, “Be on your way! Your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and started to follow him up the road. Mk 10:46-52
