This session – review of reports• We take examples from within SADC

• First a large survey• called an agriculture sample census• from Tanzania

– We look at the technical report– And at some results– To help with a possible 2nd edition

• Then a local survey– which we relate to the principles of official

statistics

Activity 2: Tanzania survey

• Methodology report exists

• There is a technical guide• plus questionnaire• very useful• that there is a pdf version• use it and give praise for that

• In Module B2 you reviewed– some tables and graphs

• This is partly repeated

• But also with the accompanying text• to review

• Designed for group work

Principles of Official Statistics

• Principle 4 states the following:

“The statistical agencies are entitled to comment on erroneous interpretation and misuse of statistics.”

• Relevance here:

• If the local report is from the NSO then it should be available (on the web site???) and set a good example

• If from an NGO/University, etc• Then principle 4 encourages the NSO• to have a monitoring role – do they monitor?• They need a structure to do this
