The Digital journalism Diploma is a practical course taught by media professionals which provides the core skills needed by those seeking work in a rapidly changing industry. The curriculum covers the latest developments in digital news media, video, audio production and web design, as well as providing a thorough grounding in news and feature writing, media law and ethics.

CONCEPTThe course recognises that almost all journalists are digital journalists to some extent, and that being able to handle video, audio and text confidently across a range of platforms is becoming a prerequisite for a successful media career.The curriculum is divided into three equally weighted strands core journalism skills, video production and web design - each taught by specialists in their field. Students learn by doing, and early on in the course are expected to report on real news stories and produce features and reviews which integrate text, film and audio. This practical experience is complemented by seminars with outside specialist journalists as well as a field trip to at least one digital newsroom. each student is provided with their own laptop to keep. Assessment is ongoing and culminates in a final project which comprises a multimedia website built by each student, reflecting their own area of interest. This website acts as a showcase for their work and is an invaluable tool when students are looking for employment. Tutors offer students intensive support in both their theoretical and practical work, and towards the end of the course provide guidance and assistance with applying for jobs or securing internships.

AIMSAt the end of the course, Digital Journalism graduates will be able to investigate news stories, research features and deliver these in a multiplatform environment. They will be also be able to build a website from scratch and produce, shoot and edit video and upload it to the web.
