Created in 1960 as a nonprofit corporation working foror in the interest of the U.S. Government in areas of scienceand technology critical to national security
Operates a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) in the planning, development, and acquisition of space and launch systems for the U.S. Government
Leader in the development of U.S. military space systems
Works for DOD and non-DOD clients
Employs ~3000 people including ~2000 technical staff (29% PhD, 41% MS)
Principal tasks: advanced planning, systems engineeringand integration, readiness verification, technical oversightof contractors and anomaly resolution
Currently for 36 satellites, 11 boosters, and 13 ground elements
