Scope-This SAE Standard covers dimensions, tolerances, and methods of measurement of V-ribbed belts and pulleys for use on automotive 1 drives. 2. References 2.1 Applicable Publications-The following publication forms a part of the specification to the extent specified herein. - 2.1.1 RMA ENGINEERING STANDARD IP-Available from Rubber Manufacturers Association, Inc., 1400 K Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005. RMA Engineering Standard IP-26 3. V-Ribbed Belts-V-ribbed belts are produced in a variety of cross-sectional sizes which are given letter designations. It has been determined that the "PK" ("K") and "PL" ("L") section V-ribbed belts are applicable for automotive use. Because of different constructions and different methods of manufacture, the cross- sectional shape, dimensions, and includer.l an!J!e Detween the sidewalls of the belt may differ with different manufacturers. Belt~ ~~:::g-~ dimensioned in such a way that they are functional in pulleys dimensioned as dc:>cribea in a subsequent section. .' . 4. Pulleys For V-RibbedBelts-Pulleys are to conform to requirements of Figure 1 and Tables 1Aor 1B. 1. For non-automotive drives, see RMA Engineering Standard 1P-26. Pulleys produced to RMA Engineering Standard IP-26 will meet all of the requirements of this standard. SAE Technical Standards Board Rules provide that: "This report is published by SAE to advance the state of technical and engineering sciences. The groove-cross-sectionalsizecan be determinedbymeasuringthedimensionSg' Thepulleywidthforacrosssectionisdeterminedbythenumberofgrooves. .

    7. MeasurementOfV-RibbedBelts-ThelengthofaV-ribbedbeltisdeterminedbyuseofameasuringfixturecomprisedoftwopulleysofequaldiameter,a methodofapplyingforce,anda meansofmeasuringthecenterdistancebetweenthetwopulleys.Oneofthetwopulleysisfixedinpositionwhiletheotherismovablealongagraduatedscale.Bothpulleysareallowedtorotate.ThefixtureisshownschematicallyinFigure2. Grooves'OfmasterinspectionpulleysshallbemachinedtodimensiontolerancesshowninTables1Aand2A,or1Band2B,treatedtoresistwear,andcheckedperiodicallyforwearanddamage.
