Safe Kids National View
History:• Launched in 1988 as the first
national non-profit dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injuries.
• Recognized problem: More children under 14 die from what people call accidents than any other cause.
• Co-founders Dr. Michael Eichelberger and Herta Feely with Surgeon General C. Everett Koop serving as Chairman of the Campaign.

local Safe Kids coalitions in all 50 states, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico to reach out to communities with prevention messages.

• Started in 1998 out of Safe Communities Coalition.
• Funded through Safe Kids USA.
• Representatives from fire safety, motor vehicle safety, poison safety, animal safety, farm and ranch safety, and water safety.
• NWTHS serves as Lead Organization.
