Birthday Celebrations!Birthdays are a special day and an important time to celebrate with classmates.
However, we are experiencing a growing number of students with severe food allergies and as always want to promote health and wellness among our students and staff. For this reason, the Fayette County Board of Education strongly discourages cupcakes, cookies, or other food items be brought in for celebrations. If sweet treats are brought to school the following should be done:
● Bring only smaller size portions, avoiding the large cupcakes with heavy amounts of food dye frosting, smaller portions of a cookie instead of cookie cake, no large donuts.
Other ideas for celebration:● School Ice Cream pass for the class ($15.00 for entire class—can be purchased in the front office). Our ice cream has
been approved to comply with the Smart Snack regulations from the Federal government. ● Bring fruit roll-ups, fruit snacks to share, fruit kabobs.● Read a book to the class and/or donate the book to the classroom library in honor of your child’s birthday. ● Party Favors, such as stickers, pens, pencils, erasers, notepads, bubbles, etc. ● Send in an autograph book for each classmate to write a special birthday message to your child. ● Donate a board game, puzzle, jump rope, ball, etc. in honor of your child’s birthday. ● Ask your child’s teacher for a show and tell time. Your child can make a poster, bring in their favorite things, etc. ● Donate a plant, seeds, or a bulb for the school garden. ● Send in a t-shirt, stuffed animal, pillow case, etc. for the class to sign. ● Other ideas: please check with your child’s teacher and share your ideas so we can add them to our list.
Balloons, flowers, etc. should not be delivered to school to celebrate a student’s birthday or special event. Students should not wear any clothing or accessories that distract from the learning environment. Written invitations to birthdays or social events outside the school should be mailed unless every child in the class or every member of the same gender in the class receives an invitation.

BYOT
Bring Your Own Technology
Huddleston Elementary
Reasons for Implementing BYOT
Digital devices are becoming an integral part of everyone's daily life.
Students need to learn how to use their device for learning, creating, communicating, and analyzing information.
Students need to learn how to manage their digital lives and to work productively and safely in that environment.
Digital Responsibility
Digital safety will be the first and continuous skill taught with BYOT.
● Parents must:○ Print and return the Parent Permission Form.○ Read and return the FCBOE BYOT contract.○ Register the device(s).
Digital Responsibility
Students must learn to:Protect their personal informationBe aware of and appropriately respond
to cyberbullyingPractice safe, legal, and responsible
use of technology and informationProtect their digital footprint
Property & Procedures● Students are responsible for their devices.
● Only the owners of the devices may use/hold them.
● Internet use must be on the FCBOE guest filtered network, not data plan coverage. If the device isn't correctly configured, then it will be sent home.
● Devices should have a security and antivirus app. The guest network does not provide security.
● All students will have Digital Citizenship training before devices are brought to school.
● Students must realize their device is a learning tool and must be used in a responsible way.
● Devices will be used by teacher direction only.
State of Georgia: Testing Update● Students in grades K-2 DO NOT take a state test. However they do take a county
level test called Student Learning Objective (SLO). It includes a pre & post test to show growth in a content area determined by FCBOE.
● Students in grades 3-8 will take the Georgia Milestone test in April.
● The new testing system will include multiple choice and open-ended response questions.
● Testing will take place on the computer. Help at home by practicing keyboarding skills. Many resources for this on the HES website.
● Georgia Milestones will be aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) in English language arts and mathematics and Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in science and social studies.
● This testing system will require more from students than the CRCT in order to better prepare students for college and career.
