All laboratories must implement controls to restrict access, prevent theft or diversion of hazardous materials and equipment, ensure the safety for laboratory personnel and the public, and improve emergency preparedness and response. Laboratory Safety Lab Security CONTROL ACCESS Restrict access to only authorized personnel. Question the presence of unfamiliar individuals in laboratories. Keep laboratory door locked when the lab is unattended. Keep keys and access cards in your possession. Implement increased controls, where required, for certain chemical, biological and radiological materials. Train all laboratory workers on security procedures and why they are important. MAINTAIN an INVENTORY Know what hazardous materials are in the lab. Submit a chemical inventory annually to EH&S. Track purchases and verify receipt of materials. REPORT INCIDENTS Missing or unaccounted loss of equipment or materials. Suspicious activity. Laboratory Security

Laboratory security is everyone's responsibility. All laboratories must implement controls to restrict access, prevent theft or diversion of hazardous materials and equipment, ensure the safety for laboratory personnel and the public, and improve emergency preparedness and response.
