GENERAL INFORMATION

CAUTION

The safety instructions section on the previous pag es of this document should be carefully read before using the machine in order to minimize the r isk of serious injury or injury which may lead to death.

Design and operation

The ATLAS COPCO BE20 and BE30 vibrator units have been designed to adapt to BD double-profile beams (1) to obtain a complete machine for the compaction and smoothing of all types of concrete.

The BE20 vibrator unit is composed of an external vibrator (2), electrical equipment (3) and a movable mount (4).

The external vibrator (2) is a three-phase induction engine (5) equipped with adjustable eccentric weights (6) each side of the engine. The vibrator can be turned 90° by means of the screws (7) to obta in horizontal vibration.

The vibrator adapts to various mounts (BE20/BE200/BE202) according to the BD beams.

The BE30 vibrating unit is supplied with a Honda 4-stroke gasoline engine.

The engine (8) is attached by means of rubber dampers (9) to the vibrating part (10). The engine power is transmitted to the vibrating part by a system of pulleys (11) and belt (12). This system drives a shaft (13) equipped with eccentric weights (14) which produces the vibrations. A casing 15) prevents access to the moving parts. The mounts (16) attach the vibrating unit to the beam (1) and transmit the vibrations.

The BD beam (1) is composed of two parallel sections made of aluminum. The beam is equipped with a tension system to adjust the counter-deflection of the sections.

Standard lengths are from 3.2 m to 9.4 m.

U2 or U3 outriggers are available for use on rails.

Increase the engine power rating using the throttle control lever.

STOPPING Reduce the engine power rating as far as possible using the throttle control lever.

Set the switch to the “OFF” position.

Close the fuel valve.

Residual risk

WARNING

The mechanical linkage used is the pulley-belt system.

Do not insert a foreign body in the belt and two pulleys, risk of jamming.

Use

SPEED OF USE (BE30) The maximum speed of the engine must not exceed 3,600 rpm. It is set in the factory.

If work is carried out as part of the engine maintenance, this speed must be checked and set to 3,600 rpm. Refer to the instructions manual supplied with the engine for adjusting the speed, starting up and stopping.

STARTING UP Start up the vibrator unit to check the direction in which the beam has a tendency to move naturally. It is recommended to keep this direction if the beam is dragged manually. When using winches, it is preferable to choose the opposite direction.

Page 16: Safety warnings and instructions for the operator Electric, gasoline drive units … · 2013. 1. 21. · The ATLAS COPCO BE20 and BE30 vibrator units have been designed to adapt to

Vibrating/Smoothing concrete

Pour the concrete evenly into the formwork.

The work area must be sufficiently large for the beam to be dragged from a distance and without interruption.

Pull and control the beam using the traction cords.

Use the whole length of the cords and keep them down (at waist level) so that the front of the beam is not raised.

If the front profile of the beam leaves a depression on the surface of the concrete, add concrete in front of the rear profile of the beam. The concrete will then be vibrated before the rear profile reaches the hole.

Move the beam forward at a regular speed (0.5–1m/min) to obtain a smooth concrete surface.

Avoid stopping while carrying out the work as this will leave marks on the surface of the concrete.

The depth of penetration of the beam vibrations is closely related to the consistency of the concrete and the stability of the rails but in most cases is between 10 and 15 cm.

The final appearance of the concrete also depends on the stability and geometry of the rails.

In front of the profiles and along the length of the beam the concrete must form a roll 1 to 2 cm in height.

Check the height of excess concrete during the vibration.

If the height is too high, the beam is heavy to pull and the concrete passes behind the beam.

If the roll is too small, the vibration effect will not be satisfactory.

Near the end of the smoothing run, stop the vibrator before stopping the beam.

If you wish to perform a second smoothing run, lift the beam and bring it back to the starting point instead of moving it over the compacted and smoothed surface.

ACCESSORIES

U2 outrigger

DESCRIPTION The U2 outrigger is recommended for using the beam on the outer rails of the surface to be vibrated.

The outrigger is equipped with rollers covered in rubber to move on the rails.

The extended length of the rollers varies between 130 mm and 500 mm with respect to the end of the beam.

The height of the lower edge of the rollers to the lower edge of the beam can be adjusted between 125 mm and 250 mm in intervals of 25 mm.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Attach the mounts (1) to the sections with the screws and nuts.

2. Adjust the height and length of the arm extension (2) with respect to the rails.

WEIGHT Weight: 21 kg.

U3 outrigger

DESCRIPTION The U3 outrigger has the same characteristics as the U2 outrigger but the wheels are assembled on an eccentric shaft which can be adjusted with a handle. This system is used to raise the beam from the surface of the concrete and to push it back for a new run.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Attach the mounts (1) to the sections with the screws and nuts.

2. Adjust the height and length of the arm extension (2) with respect to the rails.

3. Adjust the height of the beam with the handles (3).
