Pervasive Error Code 94

Sage PASTEL ACCOUNTING SUPPORT SELF-HELP DOCUMENTATION NEWSFLASH

Status 94 also known as Pervasive Error Code 94 is a permissions error and usually caused by incorrectly configured or blocked settings on either the Sage Pastel Server or Workstation.

Complete the checklist below to ensure all the settings are correct on the Server and

Workstation.

Windows Administrator

Please ensure the Windows User is logged in as the local Administrator.

There are certain files that will not install or will not install correctly if you are not logged in as

the machines local Administrator.

To check if the user is a local Windows Administrator follow the

following steps:

Windows 7

Select Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage User Accounts

Windows 8 and Windows 10

Right-click in the bottom left corner of your screen, select Control Panel > User

Account > Manage User Accounts

The user has to belong to and Administrator Group. If the user is not, please contact your IT

User Account Control

Before installing Sage Pastel Accounting please ensure that the User Account Control or

UAC is turned off as some of the features for Sage Pastel Accounting do not function

properly if the User Account Control is on.

Windows Vista

Select Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

Select Turn user Account Control (UAC) on or off

Deselect the following option User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your

computer

Windows 7

Select Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

Select Change User Account Control Settings, ensure the slider is at the bottom on

Never notify

Windows 8 and Windows 10

Select Start button > Search for UAC

Select the option Change User Account Control settings

The User Account Control Settings screen will display, ensure the slider is at the

bottom on Never notify

Pervasive Ports

We recommend that you add the Pervasive Database Manager and Ports to your Windows

Firewall. This will ensure that Pervasive and Sage Pastel can communicate effectively.

Adding these Pervasive Ports can also assist in preventing specific errors and streamline the

speed of the Sage Pastel program.

Adding the Program:

Navigate to your Control Panel

Select the option Windows Firewall

Select Advanced Settings

Select Inbound Rules, right click and select New Rule…

The New Inbound Rule Wizard will open and the Rule Type screen will display

Select Program, select Next

On the Program screen, select Browse

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Pervasive Software\PSQL\bin

Select the file w3dbsmgr.exe

Select Open, the path will pull through on the Program screen

Select Next

The Action screen will display, ensure Allow the connection is selected

Select Next

The Profile screen will display, on this screen you would need to select the profiles

that the rule needs to be applied to.

If you are unsure please contact you IT Technician or Network Administrator for

assistance on which Profiles to select.

Select Next

On the Name screen enter the information as shown in the screen shot below

Select Finish to save the rule

Adding the Pervasive Ports:

Select Inbound Rules, right click and select New Rule….

Select the Port, select Next

The Protocol and Ports screen will display

Select TCP and Specific local ports, type in 1583, 3351

Select Next

Ensure Allow the connection is selected, select Next

The Profile screen will display, select the Profiles that the rule needs to be applied to. If

you are unsure please contact you IT Technician or Network Administrator for assistance

on which Profiles to select.

Select Next

The Name screen will display type in Pervasive Ports

Select Finish to save the rule

Outbound rules also needs to be added. Steps to add the outbound rule are exactly

the same as adding the inbound rule.

Removing read only attributes

Ensure you are on the Sage Pastel Server (this is the machine where Sage Pastel is

registered as the Server)

Press the Windows and E keys found on your keyboard simultaneously on the C Drive

Right click on the Pastel/Xpress folder (the xx represents the version of Pastel you are

using i.e. Sage Pastel Partner V14 = Pastel14, Sage Pastel Xpress V14 = Xpress14)

Go to Properties, ensure Read-only by Attributes in unticked

Select Apply and ensure the option Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and

files is selected and click OK

Select the Security tab

Ensure each Group or user name under Group or user name has Full Control selected

Select OK to confirm changes

Sharing the Pastel folder

If the Permission is not set to Full Control. The quickest way to enable full control is to share

the local Pastel/Xpress folder.

Alternatively contact your IT administrator for assistance.

Ensure you are on the Sage Pastel Server (this is the machine where Sage Pastel is

registered as the Server)

Press the Windows and E keys found on your keyboard simultaneously on the C Drive

Right click on the Pastel/Xpress folder (the xx represents the version of Pastel you are

using i.e. Sage Pastel Partner V14 = Pastel14, Sage Pastel Xpress V14 = Xpress14)

Right click on the Pastel/Xpress folder

Select the option Share With > Specific People

The File Sharing screen will display Type Everyone in the blank space provided and select Add Change the Permission Level next to Everyone to Read/Write by selecting the drop

down

Select Share, when completed press Done to complete the sharing

Running a repair on Sage Pastel Accounting

Right click on the Pastel/Xpress folder on the Pastel Server and the Workstation where

you receive the error and rename to Pastel.old

Locate the Sage Pastel Installation file (This is the file used to install Sage Pastel

Accounting.)

Double click to run the installation, select Next

The Program Maintenance screen will display, select Repair

Select Next and then Install

Select Finish once the installation has completed

Once the repair has completed on both computers, you would need to share the

folder on the Pastel Server and map a drive from the Workstation to the server

Mapping a network drive

Press the Windows and E keys found on your keyboard simultaneously

Right Click on the mapped drive and select Disconnect

Right Click on Computer and select Map Network Drive

Select an unused drive letter between L and V

Select Browse

From the list of computers displayed in the network, select the Sage Pastel Server

Name

Double click on the Pastel/Xpress folder

Ensure Reconnect at logon is selected

Select Finish
