Connecting ‘maker to market’

• M2M is a critical aspect of Sage foundation where it aims to achieve the following: – Facilitate career opportunities for the artisans by:

• Organizing events.

• Marketing & PR activities.

– Part of the vision is to promote, conserve & support Indian crafts to create a recognition & impact for artisans in the world handicraft market.

• A residential college equipped with complete infrastructure essential for training of crafts.

– Aims to be a state of the art and one of its kind in future with an Art museum, Conference facilities, Performance & Exhibition space, Retail Outlet, Top of the line computer lab & library, Café & boarding facility for visitors & tourists.

• Target Student Group: – Children above 16 years. Women from Rural domicile. Existing Artisans.

• Will be approached through support from NGO’s, advertisements, workshops etc.

• Expected mix: 75-80% Rural background & 20-25% Urban background / elite groups.

• Curriculum to be developed by expert/s & master craftsmen along with experienced faculties.

• Courses shall comprise of different modules based on type of course, duration, degree of skill & students liking.

– Duration of course between 2 months – 1 year.

LAC Lac is a kind of resin.

It is a resinous incrustation formed on the barkof trees like Kusum, Pipal through the action of LAC insect.

Once a female insect is impregnated, it encrusts itself with a resinous excretion & develops a brilliant red color.

Its collected & crushed into a powder & then made into small square cakes.

The contemporary student will learn to apply this traditional craft through various mediums to create, embellish, polish and design ornaments, decorative and utilitarian household objects as well as otherknickknacks & trinkets.
