———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK——— !!!
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Happy Second Sunday of Easter! The Church
puts so much time, effort, and emphasis on Lent (and
rightly so) that sometimes we can forget that Easter, that
is, the Easter Season, is the longest season of the Church
year, and is meant to be a celebratory season. Easter goes
for eight weeks, Lent for merely six and a half. So how
are you going to celebrate? I'm serious. If Lent calls on us
to do works of charity to prepare for Easter, how will we
actually celebrate what Easter is, namely our new life in
Christ? I raise that question because it is imperative to
Christianity itself. If the Church is mainly about penance-
-focused mainly on what's wrong with the world, who
would ever want to join? But since the Church is primari-
ly and proportionally more about what's right with the
world, and God's salvific plans for all of creation, our cel-
ebration of this should send a message that we are truly
Gospel people, that is, people of the Good News.
We celebrate a huge theme of that Good News today
as we celebrate Mercy Sunday, a feast begun by Pope St.
John Paul II, on the Sunday after Easter. I invite you to an
hour-long celebration of prayer and praise for God's mercy
beginning at 2:30 at St. Ambrose this Sunday (April 8),
with a reception to follow. We will pray the Divine Mer-
cy Chaplet precisely at 3pm, commemorating the hour of
Jesus' life-giving death, and have time for quiet meditation
and prayer as well. Please come. It will be beautiful, for
nothing in this world is as beautiful as the love of God,
who is Mercy, poured out for us, which is indeed cause for
celebration!
Fr. Michael

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A Hope
Appeal Agency)
In today’s gospel Jesus teaches, “Blessed are
those who have not seen and believe.” Accepting someone
as they are, without demanding they prove themselves or
meet our expectations, creates a rich relationship. Without
acceptance, a home is only a house and a family is just a
group of housemates.
