Pastor’s Letter Dear Parishioners, This Wednesday, December 23, Bishop Stephen Parkes will join Fr. Robert, Fr. Adam Kasela, Fr. Martino Nygyen, Fr. Jerry Sherbourne, and me for Confessions in the Main Church beginning at 6:00 p.m. There will not be a liturgical service, just Confessions. So, come as soon as possible, as we will close after the last person, whether it takes a half hour, an hour, or more. Confession is the perfect way to prepare for the Christmas Season. In my entire life and my 40 years as a priest, I have never seen a bishop come to a parish for Confessions! In fact, I’ve never been to a bishop for Confession, and I won’t start this Wednesday. But we are blessed to have Bishop Parkes with us. Make sure that each priest and the bishop have lines that are even so that no one priest is overwhelmed. Thursday is Christmas Eve. We have three Masses scheduled at 5:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. The Children’s Pageant starts at 4:30 p.m., and the Prelude of Carols starts at 7:30 p.m. We will allow about 350 into the church to provide for social distancing, and we have about 100 chairs in Holy Family Hall for the overflow. In the hall, the Mass from the church will be live streamed. We will ask those in the hall to process to the church for Holy Communion. Because of the increase in COVID-19’s spread, please wear a mask to alleviate the anxiety of those who are present and fearful of contracting this disease during Mass. No matter your ideology on the matter of masks, please put that aside and side with those who are fearful and believe mask wearing will help stop the spread. We have Mass on Christmas Day at 9:00 a.m. I ask those who can to attend the 11:00 p.m. Mass Christmas Eve to alleviate the crowds at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., which in the past have been packed, or attend the 9:00 a.m. Mass Christmas Day. I hope we will not have to turn anyone away from Christmas Mass, and if everyone is wearing masks, we might be able to fudge a bit on the 350 number. This is new to all of us, and we must try to accommodate as many as possible. I pray that all of you have a blessed Christmas. Pray for an end to this pandemic and that ethically developed vaccines will halt it as soon as possible. God bless you. Your Pastor, Fr. Allan

Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins. —1 Peter 4:8

The Eternal God King David wished that the ark of God might have a more permanent home. David may have envisioned something like the cedar palace where he resided. God had in mind something more: a throne where David’s descendants would rule forever, a kingdom where Jews and Gentiles alike would be welcome. Mary’s prayerful nature led to an even more disturbing message. She would conceive and bear a Son though she was not yet married. “How can this come about?” Mary wondered. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,” she was told (Luke 1:35). Mary’s acceptance of this difficult challenge ushered in this, the final age of God’s reign. What was once a secret known only by chosen people like King David and his descendants must now be made clear to all so that, as Saint Paul wrote to the Romans, we can be brought to the “obedience of faith” “according to the command of the eternal God” (Romans 16:26).

Prayer for the Canonization of the Georgia Martyrs

O Lord Jesus Christ, reward the apostolic zeal of Friar Pedro de Corpa and his four companion friars, Blas, Miguel, Antonio and Francisco,

who labored for the spiritual well-being of the native Guale people of Georgia and gave their lives in witness to the Christian faith. Through their merits and intercession graciously grant the favor I humbly ask of You, so that, for the glory of Your Name, their heroic sacrifice may be officially recognized by the Church. Amen. https://thegeorgiamartyrs.org/en/
