A warm beginning of the Advent Season to you:
Thank you...
St. Vincent de Paul Society Outreach ...Your generous monetary donations as well as your non-perishable food donations on Loaves and Fishes Sundays made it possible for more needy families in our community to be given a Thanksgiving Dinner Basket. Thank you to all who donated. School, CCD & Boy Scout Food Collection...Our students and their family’s generous response to this Food Drive has helped stock our SVDP closet and a local food cupboard. Thank you to all who contributed. A thank you, also, to Fr. Liam Murphy. Father celebrated our Tuesday Mass of Thanksgiving last week. Our outreach this year is centered on Father’s mission at Mother of Mercy House in Kensington. It was great to have Father Murphy in our St. Anselm community. We continue to wish him well in his ongoing ministry.
The Holy Season of Advent
“Come, Lord, come Lord Jesus, bring your people peace . . . hope . . . joy. . . life.” This prayer, expressed in an Advent hymn titled “Maranatha”, captures the desire we need to bring to life in our hearts and souls at this time of year. December is a busy time for many people. However, our preparations for Christmas must also include a spiritual preparation. We will do our best here to make the weekend Masses in Advent prayerful, reflective, and meditative. I hope that you will more fully enter into the spirit of our Advent Eucharistic celebration so that your presence here will be the quality time you need to spiritually prepare for Christmas.
The Little Blue Advent Book The Little Blue Book is available for your Advent Prayer. In The Little Blue Book, there is a reflection for each day of Advent. The season of Advent can be a busy, hectic time as we prepare for Christmas. The prayerful reflections in The Little Blue Book offer a period of quiet and calm to foster the true spirit of Christmas within us. The Book is so little that you can carry it in your pocket or pocketbook. A few things to catch-up on… A very big and special thank you to everyone for our annual Christmas Bazaar. Once again, Our Lady of Victory Hall was transformed into the North Pole. Gifts and tables everywhere. Good food and good folks populated the three day extravaganza. Many traditions of our past bazaars were in evidence while incorporating some new ideas and vendors. Thanks to Denise Gentile, Kathy Simmons, Mary Ann Thackrah, and all of our Ladies of St. Anselm. The success and popularity of our time honored Christmas tradition would not be possible if not for the work of our devoted and dedicated Ladies. Thank you to all who visited our Bazaar, and those who came multiple times. Another way that proves to all in Parkwood that Anselm is indeed Awesome!
Thank you to our 19154 5K committee for representing our parish at the annual Philadelphia Marathon. Our parishioners gathered at the Spirituality Center, on a wet and cold morning, setting out to “man the post at Mile marker 2.6.” Their mission was accomplished. They also had their picture taken, as part of the Philadelphia Marathon Website and Facebook. If you are able, please enter the following on Facebook (I think…) #philadelphiamarathoncheer. Once there, many photos appear that have that hashtag and ours is there. Just need people to “LIKE” the photo.
Enough for now. Please take advantage of this Advent Season. Share a Little Blue Book with someone. It’s OK!
Anselm is Awesome!
-Fr. Chiriaco

2017 Day of Sanctification for Priests The priests of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia assemble each year for a day of prayer and reflection on the Sacred Priesthood. This year, our priests will gather with Archbishop Chaput at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary on Monday, December 4th, for the 2017 Day of Sanctification for Priests. Please pray for all priests of the Archdiocese, especially this weekend and Monday, with the following prayer from the Roman Missal: Lord our God, who in governing your people Make use of the ministry of Priests, Grant to these men A persevering obedience to your will, So that by their ministry and life They may gain glory for you in Christ. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen 4

Vincentian Message…
As we begin Advent, we are called to “Be watchful! Be alert!” as we stand in joyful anticipation for the grace of Christmas to once again bless our lives. Your gift in the St. Vincent DePaul Poor Box will help the poor to celebrate the grace of God’s love this Christmas.
Parishioners in Need Unemployment, lack of work, layoffs have caused some of our families to experience a loss of income. Our charitable outreach to these families at Thanksgiving and Christmas (food, gifts, and gift cards) will allow them to take the money that they are not spending for these things and use it for utility bills, mortgage payments, etc. If you know of parishioners in this situation who we can help, please call either Father Chiriaco, Father Cavara, Deacon Whartenby or Deacon Warner. People who are willing to donate to assist these families are asked to do so as “Thanksgiving or Christmas Outreach.”
Christmas Giving Tree We invite all the families of the parish to think of the poor at Christmas. Our Parish Family Christmas Tree is a special way to brighten someone’s Christmas. Choose one of the Tree Ornaments, which will indicate gender, age, size and item to be purchased. When you wrap your gift, please secure the ornament to the outside of the package. Place the gift under the tree by 1:30 PM December 17th. All gifts will be distributed by the St. Vincent DePaul Society in the name of St. Anselm Parish. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness.
SCOUTING FOR FOOD
Thank you to Saint Anselm Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts for distributing bags and collecting non-perishable food items for those in need. As a result of this event, 5,583 items were collected. We are most grateful for your support!
