SOLEMNIDAD DE LA SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD/ THE MOST HOLY TRINITY Hoy celebra la liturgia la fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad. Estamos acostumbrados a hacer la señal de la

cruz “en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo”; con esta invocación empezamos y terminamos el día; el signo de la cruz nos acompaña en los viajes y en los momentos difíciles… Pues bien, esta fórmula tan sencilla contiene una de las verdades más profundas de la revelación: Dios, en su misterio más hondo, es la perfecta unidad siendo la perfecta comunidad de amor. En una feliz expresión, atribuida al Papa San Dámaso, la tradición de la Iglesia afirma que Dios es único, pero no es un ser solitario. Cuando Jesús confía a sus discípulos la misión de enseñar a todas las naciones y bautizarlas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu, hemos llegado al final de un largo camino. ¿A qué nos referimos cuando decimos que hemos llegado al final de un largo camino? Dios, el gran pedagogo, va descubriendo gradualmente su proyecto a la humanidad. Dentro de la tradición judeo – cristiana, el punto de partida es el llamado que Dios hace a Abrahán: “Vete de tu tierra, y de tu patria, y de la casa de tu padre, a la tierra que yo te mostraré. De ti haré una nación grande y te bendeciré. Engrandeceré tu nombre”. A partir de este llamado, comienza la más fascinante experiencia religiosa!"#$"%&'"()*+"'+,*-'"$ una comunidad y se le irá manifestando a través de los acontecimientos de su historia. Abrahán y sus descendientes ya no adorarán al sol, a la luna y a las fuerzas de la naturaleza. Ellos, por el contrario, ofrecerán sacrificios a Yahvé, Dios personal, único y trascendente. En la primera lectura de hoy, tomada del libro del Deuteronomio, encontramos unas vigorosas palabras de Moisés, líder carismático que condujo a las tribus de Israel a través del desierto. Moisés cuestiona a la comunidad: “¿Hubo jamás, desde un extremo al otro del cielo, una cosa tan grande como ésta? ¿Se oyó algo semejante? ¿Qué pueblo ha oído, sin perecer, que Dios le hable desde el fuego, como tú lo has oído? ¿Hubo algún dios que haya ido a buscarse un pueblo en medio de otro pueblo, a fuerza de pruebas, de milagros y de guerras, con mano fuerte y brazo poderoso? ¿Hubo acaso hechos tan grandes como los que, ante sus propios ojos, hizo por ustedes en Egipto el Señor, su Dios?”. Este proceso de manifestación o auto-revelación de Dios al que se refiere Moisés alcanza su clímax en la predicación de Jesús. En la segunda lectura de hoy, tomada de la Carta a los Romanos, encontramos un texto que ilumina el sentido de la fiesta de hoy: “Ustedes han recibido, no un espíritu de esclavitud, que les haga temer de nuevo, sino un espíritu de hijos adoptivos, en virtud del cual podemos llamar Padre a Dios”. San Pablo nos está diciendo que la palabra clave para comprender nuestra relación con Dios es la adopción� Veamos la riqueza teológica de la palabra adopción� El Hijo eterno de Dios, que se ha hecho hombre en Jesucristo, nos ha constituido en sus hermanos, nos ha dado su Espíritu, nos ha unido a Él como los miembros del cuerpo están unidos a la cabeza, formamos una sola familia. Gracias a que hemos sido adoptados por Jesucristo, nuestro hermano mayor, tenemos libre acceso al Padre en un mismo Espíritu. Como lo expresa elocuentemente San Pablo en su Carta

Recordemos la imagen de la vid y los sarmientos: participamos de la vida divina en la medida en que permanecemos unidos a Él mediante la oración, la solidaridad con los pobres y la participación en los sacramentos. Es hora de terminar nuestra meditación dominical en la fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad. Jesús nos ha manifestado que Dios, en su ser más hondo, es comunidad de amor siendo la perfecta unidad. Gracias al bautismo participamos de la vida de Dios. En Él “vivimos, nos movemos y existimos”. Este acceso a la vida de Dios se lo debemos a Jesucristo que nos ha adoptado como sus hermanos, nos ha comunicado al Espíritu Santo y es el camino que nos conduce al Padre. Nuestra vida espiritual, arraigada en el misterio trinitario, debe conducirnos a la construcción de auténticas comunidades en la familia, en el trabajo, en la sociedad y en la Iglesia. Holy Trinity

Today, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity, which falls on the Sunday after Pentecost. The feast of Pentecost, with the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit, is the culmination of the Easter sea-son. Today, we will celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ. Then we enter into Ordinary Time. As we return to this cycle year after year, we are invited to learn more, to see more, to be more in touch with the truth that these feasts reveal to us.

I love the way the first reading from Deuteronomy poses the questions:

“Do you realize what has been happening? Do you know what has been done for you? Do you recognize who God really is?” Those are wonderful questions to ask ourselves: “Who is God really for me?”

Let’s not think in terms of what is written about God, but what we know about him. Moses tries to tell the people that God is extraordinary. He is too good to be true. He comes into our lives; he wants to free us from slavery. He wants to draw us out of the things that bind us. At the time of Moses, people perceived that if God got too close to them, they would be destroyed. The peo-ple thought they were so much less than God, and they believed that if they were in his presence, being judged by him, they would find themselves inferior. But Moses tells them, “Recognize that you are in the presence of God and yet, you are still alive. You are still standing. You have not been con-sumed by his brightness. You, too, are bright.” Moses wants the people to realize what God is accomplishing in them.
