My Dear Parishioners,

One of the things here at St. Bede's that always gives evidence that summer is ending and school is about to open is the nightly sight of our soccer field lights ablaze and teams beginning their workouts and practices. Soon the great St. Bede Parish tradition of Friday Night Soccer under the lights returns! Our Catholic Youth Organization

(CYO) is an important part of our parish's mission to proclaim the Gospel in all kinds of situations, not only the classroom, or home, but right on the playing field as well. I am proud of our CYO program, not only for the many trophies that our teams win, but more importantly, for what it does for our children and their formation. Pope Francis, in a recent address to Olympic athletes and coaches, said, "In sports as in life, competing for results and victories is important. But playing well to the best of your ability and fairly is even more important. Sports allows us to improve our health, to learn how to be a part of a team, to learn how to win graciously, and how to react in a Christian manner to a loss." I thank all of our coaches and CYO Board of Directors, who volunteer so much of their time to benefit our children. In a spe-cial way I thank Dennis McKeever for his many years of service as Athletic Director, and at the same time, welcome Elaine Cawley who will succeed him. Another sign of summer's end is the arrival of our school faculty, who have already begun to prepare their classrooms for their returning and new students. This is an exciting time at St. Katharine Drexel School, as we welcome 410 students from pre-kindergarten to 8th grade. That is the highest enrollment in the last 10 years! This is also an exciting year since we have offi-cially applied for Blue Ribbon status, and from what I am told, we will hear the results late next summer, 2018. St. Katharine Drexel School is attracting more and more stu-dents because of its reputation for excellence in academics, its formation of leaders, and commitment to building a truly Catho-lic-Christian community. A community where traditional values of respect for each person is taught and lived in the classroom, on the playing field, in the home and on social media. Because we are a Catholic school, we can teach and live Gospel values with-out restrictions, in a safe environment, where "no one falls through the cracks." In the day and age in which we live, children must be well equipped to navigate a world that is much different than the one in which we grew up. Let us pray for all of our children, those in public, Catho-lic, private or home schooled, as they prepare for a new academic year.

May God Bless You,

St. Bede 103 August 27, 2017

Scripture Readings TTwenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 3, 2017 Jeremiah 20: 7-9 Psalm 63 Romans 12: 1-2 Matthew 16: 21-27 In our first reading, the price that Jeremiah pays to be a prophet is that he cannot be silent, even when speaking makes him an object of ridicule. In our Gospel, Jesus says that to follow Him means to deny oneself and take up one’s cross. As we listen to these readings, we can ask ourselves, “What does it cost me to be a disciple?”

Construction Begins on our new Bathroom Addition and Bell Tower !

The dream of a new bathroom/storage addition and bell tower began this past Monday, as Monsignor Marine and Construction Supervisor /parishioner Tony Canuso broke ground at the site near the church entrance (above left). Later and through the week, diggers began excavating the site and laying footings for the new tower (upper center/right).

Dear Parishioners,

An Information Night for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) will be held in the Drexel Center - Thursday - September 7 at 7:00 p.m. The following testimony was written by Scott Merchiore, he was fully initiated into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil of 2014: My family and I moved to Richboro about 9 years ago. We joined St. Bede shortly after the move. I have never had a close relationship with God and only accompanied my wife and daughters to Mass on holidays. Every so often, I would receive a letter from Msgr. Marine which invited me to an information session about the faith and the RCIA program. The letter was friendly and I never felt pressured to respond. In the summer of August 2013, I did indeed respond! I vis-ited the Cathedral of Notre Dame over the summer and was touched by the Holy Spirit. I gladly responded to Msgr. Ma-rine's letter and was soon contacted by Carole Obrokta. That first Thursday in September was a group of parishioners who recently completed the RCIA program. They told their stories about how they developed a personal relationship with Christ through the RCIA program. We then spent the next 7 months learning about Catholicism, with wonderful guest speakers, including Msgr. Marine, Fr. Loomis and Carole Obrokta. The individuals who attended these classes were there be-cause they wanted to be part of something so special and life-changing. Then, on the evening of April 19, at the Easter Vigil Mass, I was honored to be part of something so beauti-ful as I received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion. During that beautiful Mass time stood still. After the Mass was complete, I was amazed by the amount of parishioners who took the time to seek me out to welcome me to the parish. I am proud to call myself a Catho-lic. Probably the most important part of my journey is that no one ever forced me to attend and no one ever asked me for anything! I was surrounded by people who love their faith and wanted to share their love with me. I can't say enough about the love and generosity that was shown to me by those people, most especially, Carole Obrokta, who epitomizes the goodness of Catholicism. Thank you Carole for everything you, Father Loomis and Msgr. Marine did to change my life for the better! Who is the RCIA for? 1. Persons in need of Baptism 2. Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic 3. Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and / or Confirmation Let us pray that those who are "on the fence" about attend-ing the RCIA Information Night will be inspired by Scott's testimony. God Bless, Carole Obrokta Director of Religious Education 215-357-2130

Urge Congress to Enact the Conscience Protection Act of 2017

The month of August, when Congress is in recess, is a great time to contact your representatives while they are in their dis-tricts and advocate for the protection of life and freedom of conscience. The Conscience Protection Act of 2017 (H.R. 644) has been introduced in the House of Representatives by Reps. Diane Black (R-TN) and Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) and in the Senate (S. 301) by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK). This much-needed, common-sense legislation will clarify federal law and ensure that those who provide health care and health coverage can continue to do so without being forced by government to help destroy innocent unborn children. Please take a moment to let your representatives in Congress know that we expect them to protect our most cherished liberties. Last year, on July 13, the House passed an identical bill of the same name (S. 304), but it was never enacted into law. Therefore, we must continue to advocate for conscience protec-tion for those who choose not to participate in abortion and remain hopeful that with a change in the White House our ef-forts will meet with success this year. Recommended Actions to take immediately: Send emails to your members of Congress through HumanLifeAction.org Call your members in their local office. Attend a town hall meeting held by your members Share this alert by email, Facebook, and any other social me-dia outlets. Stay connected for updates by following us @HumanLifeAction on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Pray for the enactment of the Conscience Protection Act

High School Juniors and Seniors! Sign up NOW for KAIROS 2017!!! Kairos can simply be translated to mean “God’s Time” This 3-day retreat is based upon the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. During the re-treat the young people open themselves up to God’s love as well as the love of their family and friends. The retreat creates an environment of acceptance and love in which participants can accept Christ more deeply in their lives. This retreat is based on the same model that is used at many of our Archdi-ocesan High Schools. Youth from parishes through-out Bucks County are invited to attend.

Rosary for Priests Please join us in prayer for our priests, our seminarians and an in-crease in vocations to the priesthood. We meet every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the Drexel Center for a Rosary. If you have any questions please call Barb Cullen at 215-953-0385.
