Thoughts From a Young Adult
“Thank You”
By Michael Halloran
For me, last week was an insanely busy week. I’ve
been putting together an experiment for my research lab
that is extremely important, while at the same time having
to maintain the usual work of a PhD student, and the vol-
unteering I do. The end result has been leaving home
around 7 in the morning and getting home around 10:30 at
night for a week straight. Today it’s 12 AM and I still
haven’t been back home yet. But despite it being such a
busy week, I can’t help looking back and smiling on what
was also a great week.
Don’t get me wrong, it was a hard week. A stressful
week. A frustrating week. A scary week (I work in a com-
bustion lab. I consider fear to be a healthy human instinct
when you’re setting things on fire in a new, untested ex-
periment). It was a week that had some failures to go with
the successes. But today I’m looking back and saying, “I
did it.” The work got done. The goals were met.
And that’s when it’s time for me to stop and say,
“Thank you.” Because every day of the past week I had to
ask God to help me keep going without losing my mind or
giving up. I had to ask him that at least once a day. And I
know God is okay with that. In the Gospels He says we
need to totally rely on Him, and part of that is asking for
anything we need. But today, when the job is finished, and
God answered all of those prayers where I wanted some
help, I know I need to send Him a prayer of “Thank you.”
And then tomorrow I’ll go back to asking Him for help
with the next thousand problems. But that can wait until
tomorrow. Today I’m just going to leave it at “Thank you.”

Bereavement Packet

Though we can't imagine all of the thoughts and feelings you are experienc-ing right now, we do understand a bit about grieving and that, above all, it is a process. The Office of Family Life Ministries offers a free bereavement packet of materials designed to provide support, especially during the initial stages of grief. For a bereavement packet, call 716-847-2210 or email [email protected].

The commitment can be as much or as little time as you are available; even just once a year would be helpful. Contact the Family Life Office at 716-847-2210 or email [email protected] for more details.

Gift Bearers at Mass
The ushers would like to remind everyone that if their fam-ily or group wishes to bring the Communion hosts and wine to the altar, they should arrive at Mass early and seek out an
usher to let them know of their intention.
Marriage Moment "Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth." (1 John 3:18) Saying "I love you" is good. Doing an act of kindness is an even stronger testament of love. Use both "love languages" once today.
Parenting Perspective Do you really listen to your child? Of course you do. Now be honest. Do you sometimes "listen with your answer run-ning?" Today, just for today, pay attention to a request your child makes and look for the reason behind the request be-fore automatically saying, "No."
USCCB-Word of Life "If we are filled with the love of God, a culture of encounter and solidarity will begin to bloom." −"Serene Attentiveness to God's Creation"

Docents will be on hand both days (Saturday, May 5, from 2–4pm and Sunday, May 6, from Noon–2pm) to explain the unique features of this replica of 12th century Lombard-Romanesque architecture.
