ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24 God will restore the kingdom of Judah, as symbolized by the cedar. The deed is emphasized by the words, “As I, the Lord have spoken, so will I do.” Second Reading: II Corinthians 5:6-10 Paul acknowledges “that we are, in a sense, away from the Lord while in this life and bound to our bodies.” We will be fully united with God in the next life, if we please him in this life. Gospel: Mark 4:26-34 The reign of God is compared to a mustard seed which is the smallest of seeds yet grows to become the largest of shrubs. Similarly, God’s community grows gradually until it becomes large and strong.

FATHER’S DAY
Who is God the Father? He is a loving God who cares
for His children. One aspect of God the Father is that
he corrects His children. Our generation has almost
forgotten that discipline is a manifestation of love.
God is not permissive. He is the kind of Father who
loves His children so much that he cares what we are
and how we live. He cares too much about us to stand
by and watch as we become little and mean and
spiteful and selfish. Any father worthy of the name
will seek to discourage that kind of behavior in his
children.
God is also like a father in that he provides for His
children. This is one of the basic functions of a good
father. He furnishes his family with the necessities of
life. His children look to him for such things as food,
clothing and shelter. They may not have everything
they want, but they have what they need. We have a
Father in Heaven who knows and cares about our
needs.
Today we celebrate Father’s Day. Most of us owe a
tremendous debt of gratitude to a man who has made a
special contribution to our lives. We need to know that
and, if he’s alive, we need to let him know that we
know it. To the departed fathers who lived and loved
and left behind tender memories, may they have
perfect peace and look down on us to the time when we
will once again be re-united forever.
Any man can be a father.
It takes a special man to be a Daddy.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

FOOD FOR LIFE
The “Food for Life” program has been in existence for a number of years. Parishioners have provided frozen, home cooked meals for people in need of assistance. St. Damien parishioners are asked to consider making an extra portion when they are preparing a meal. Microwavable containers for this purpose can be found in baskets at each parish church. Please place meals in the freezer found in the Usher’s Room at St. Frances Cabrini. Frozen meals are used to help members of our community as the need arises. Thanks to all who participate in this worthy ministry. Please contact St. Damien Parish Office (609-399-0648) if you know someone who wishes to be helped by this program.
Food Cupboard Computer Manager Needed Ocean City Food Cupboard is looking for a Computer
Manager to volunteer 3-4 hours per month to
oversee computer operations.
Training will be provided for this easy client visit
program. Hours are totally flexible.
Please call Arlene Nespoli at 609-398-1317
for further details.
Giving Back is rewarding!
Please join our great group of volunteers.
Thank You! Sister Elizabeth Mercer, SSJ It is with deep regret that Sister Elizabeth will be leaving
Ocean City, on June 19, 2018. Due to her failing health
she will be going to Saint Joseph Villa, where she can
receive proper care.
Sister Elizabeth came to St. Augustine in 1991 and was
the DRE for St. Augustine and Our Lady of Good Counsel
for twenty years. Since the merger in 2011, Sister has
been a Pastoral Minister, visiting many homebound
parishioners and bringing communion to many. Sister
will be sorely missed by all of us. We wish her happiness
and peace in her new home. As Saint Joseph Villa is a
“House of Prayer” Sister Elizabeth will be praying for all
of us and we will all pray for her.
Please send “Well Wishes” to: Saint Joseph Villa,
110 Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031

Many parishioners are wondering why the Diocese is embarking on 2 important fundraising campaigns at the same
time during 2018 — The House of Charity and the new Catholic Strong Campaign. Bishop Sullivan has identified
a growing need to sustain the vibrancy and stability of The Church here in South Jersey. The House of Charity
attends to the neediest among us through the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Whereas Catholic Strong is a one time
campaign to build and refurbish our century-old legacy of churches and facilities; and launch new ministries
designed to grow our Catholic Community here in South Jersey. Many years ago, our parents and grandparents
invested in the future of The Catholic Church in South Jersey by supporting the new Diocese of Camden.
The time is upon us to reignite that flame of faith in South Jersey by supporting this new Catholic Strong
Campaign; while remaining focused on the yearly task of helping our neediest. The parishioners of St. Damien
Parish have been so generous in the past. As you consider your contribution, keep in mind that the Catholic Strong
Campaign is a once in decades request, while HOC is an annual appeal.

Electronic Giving at St. Damien Parish !
Electronic Giving offers parishioners a unique opportunity to support St. Damien Parish and
simplify the giving process. Envelopes have long been the preferred method for regular giving, but
this approach has always required parishioners to remember to write the check, and bring the envelope
to church. And worse, remembering to do the math to catch up if we are away for a few weeks or are
sick and miss mass here at St. Damien’s.
St Damien Parish has partnered with our financial institution Ocean City Home Bank to offer
Electronic Giving. You can sign up to have a specific amount automatically debited from a checking
or savings account that you designate. Just fill out the form and attach a cancelled check, if you are
using a checking account, and then drop the form off or mail it to the Parish Office. It takes about 2
weeks to setup and the rest is automatic.
Electronic Giving is here! A new way to give, and a great way to support your Parish.
